Hey Everyone!

We finally had the Chicago get together for ACHA. It was great to be able to meet others with similar conditions. Thanks to everyone who came! Sherry ( from VR.com), Kent (member of ACHA), Kent's wife, and Layla. And thanks to Kent for making handouts from the ACHA conference and treating us all to dinner.

Yes, it was very nice. Thanks to Danielle for coordinating and taking my frantic cell phone calls as I navigated up and down Golf Ave. looking for that Olive Garden. That's what happens when you put a Hoosier girl in the big city :D Hopefully, I'll be able to make another one. It was great to meet everyone.

Sounds like it was a grand time ;).

Sorry I was not there after all.... As some of you may recall, I went to Bowling Green KY last weekend for the MC Nationals and then onto Nashville, Big Sandy and Jackson TN before a scheduled return home on Wednesday. However, I went to bed Tuesday night at 11:30p, feeling fine....but woke up 45 minutes later sick. 3 hours later, I had a 103 degree fever...not fun.

Thus, I was in Jackson until Friday afternoon...finally decided to "bite the bullet" and head home.....left Jackson TN 4:55p...arrived in Elgin IL 1:55a, exactly 9 hours later! That includes a couple of stretches (1 S of Paducah KY & 1 N of Paducah, about a half hour before I-24 turns into I-57) of slow driving due to heavy heavy heavy (did I type heavy?) rain.....

Next time, let me know

Next time, let me know

Cort,
I'm only about 40 miles from I-24 as you headed back north out of Paducah, KY. If you ever make that trip again, let me know and I'll treat you to pie at Dolly's Place in Vienna, Illinois. Heck, I'd meet you in Paducah. It's about an hour away.

Mary, here's a quiz. How do you pronounce "Vienna, Illinois"? Just curious. My parents had some good friends from that area and they always joked about how it was pronounced.

Mary,

Heh...well, wonders never cease...and it is a small world :). I make that trip at least once a year, so I'm sure we'll have plenty of opportunities to meet up. That pie, btw, sounds absolutely delicious!

The trip up through there Friday night was not exactly the most "weather friendly" I've ever experienced....heh, meeting up that night might not have been the best idea as that "heavy rain" made it difficult to see even the front part of my MC's hood.

Karlynn,
It's pronounced Vi (long i sound) in - a. My husband's parents are from there, and his grandparents lived there all their lives. Vienna is on the road between Cape Girardeau,MO where we live now, and our hometowns of Rosiclare and Cave-in-Rock, Illinois. We stop in Vienna for meals. The pie is so good at Dolly's Place that we order whole pies for pick up both coming and going. :)

Cort,
We had the same rainstorm here. Actually we have had weeks upon weeks of heavy rain. I don't like to drive in hard downpours. It's too hard to see, and I'm always afraid someone else will run into me.
Maybe we can meet on your next time through. :) I'll know it's you by the car you drive! :D

Mary,

LOL! I guess there is no denying what I drive, eh? ;) Yep...maybe we can meet...that'd be cool!

I agree with your assessment of driving in the heavy rain. Unfortunately, we drove through one period of it Thursday night on I-74 between Champaign IL and Indianapolis IN en route to Bowling Green KY for the weekend. Then, as I mentioned, I drove through 2 periods of it heading home the following (last) Friday night.

I used to be OK driving in the rain until a couple years ago when a good friend of mine was killed after his car hydroplaned in a downpour. His car spun, crossed the interstate's grassy median, and was struck in the driver's door by another vehicle. He died instantly.

Us, too, in N IL seem to have had our fair share of continuous nightly rain the last few weeks. Hopefully, that'll change soon ;).
