Nancy - Thanks as always for your good information. The article was just what I was looking for. It was a bit technical, so I thought I would summarize:
- This is very deadly, at least according to the article (p1)
- "But over time the compensory mechanism may feed on itself to a self-destructive perpetuating loop of increasing cardiac failure" Means you better take care of it. (p3)
- "A common precipitating factor for CHF is cessation of cardiac drug intake" To me, this says if you discontinue cardiac drugs, you might end up with CHF. There's lots of people here in that category. (p3)
- A reference to aortic stenosis under Forward Cardiac Failure (p 5). I didn't understand the relevance.
- There is an acute and a chronic type. It might hit you quickly or slowly. (p 5)
- Symtoms include fluid overload (swollen ankles), crackles and wheezes (congestion in the lungs), and shortness of breath (p 5)
- Pharmacy drugs that help CHF are digitalis, beta-blockers, calcium channel blockers, nitrates, ACE inhibitors, and diuretics. (p 7)
- It advises rest, not exercise to decrease the workload on the heart. (p 9)
