The last two weeks, have had intemittent chest pains that occur out of nowhere. Duration is only about two or three seconds, then they subside. Not very painful, just a slight, sharp feeling at the top of the heart. These occur at rest or while running, with no regular pattern. I'm not well-versed in angina, or similar afflictions, and a Google search yields "Chest Pain Confusion." Curious if anyone else has had or currently has something similar. I made a doc appointment for tomorrow morning, so we'll see what's going on. If nothing else, I'll at least have met my deductible in the first month of the year!
"It's always something......."

That is so weird! I've been having chest pains for the past week. It's only happening at night..when I lie down to go to sleep. Just like you said..not really painful..just bothersome. I would call it a dull pain if that makes sense. I have an appt. myself on Friday (was supposed to be 2 weeks ago but it was rescheduled!). I'm definitely close/closer to AVR. I've been experiencing noticable symptoms for the past 3 months! Guess I'll find out Fri. what the chest pain is all about. Good luck to you with your appt.

What a drag!

What a drag!

Les,

Sorry to hear about your problem there. Ask your doc about Norvasc. It is prescribed for Hypertension as well as Angina. I take it for BP mainly and haven't noticed any chest pains at all. I think I used to get little weird chest sensations (don't know if was pain or not) before surgery and have had very few since.

Take care.

Yours truly,

Hi Les and Lisa,

Not tyring to minimize your chest pain by any means.......could it be indigestion? Commonly have this problem. Took me to the ER once.

Have also noticed since the cold weather has started..... that I will get a very brieif pain from time to time. Noticed while sleeping and or lying down. My recent tests came back fine and I have been deemed "normal":p Could there be a cold weather connection?

Les and Lisa-

You're both doing the right thing and getting things evaluated.

I sincerely hope that it's nothing to worry about. I'll be thinking of you both. Please let us know.

Maybe a pulled muscle:mad:  I pulled a muscle in my thigh a month ago. .It can show up anywhere in my leg now. Slight pain.. Anyway..glad you are having it checked out.:) Bonnie

Les,
Glad you're being proactive.

My first thought was "Have you had a cold lately?" Just another thing to throw in with Gina's indigestion thought.

Les/Lisa,

I put up w/ intermittant chest discomfort for 8 months before it worsened and became predictable w/ extreme exercise and stress. I had to insist to my cardio that the pain was not GI-related or something else.

My cardio prescribed nitro tablets, which work like a charm. I only take them when I needed, although I've asked if I can take anything longer-acting because they make me feel so much better. He said that the effect of nitro on your system is like going from a four-lane to an eight-lane highway. I can speak from personal experience that it's not a euphoric feeling or anything like that, (although wouldn't that be nice?). When I take the nitro, my asthma disappears and I can think more clearly.

Pretty powerful stuff, eh?

He also said that calcium channel blockers would work, but I cannot take them be/c of sinus bradycardia. Bottom line, vasodilators can help open things up, if you truly have angina or CHF, which can cause chest discomfort, too. Check out the HeartCenterOnline for more info on "nitrates."

Best,

Ok, I'm back from the PCP. Good news is, he doesn't think it's anything serious. To err on the side of thoroughness, he is scheduling a stress-test, etc. with my cardio. Haven't got a date yet ( how many times have I uttered THAT in life:p ) but I will certainly update all you great people when I find out anything. Thanks for the well-wishes...

Les,

Good luck with the stress test. Try not to worry (easy to say, huh?).

Elaborating a bit on Karlynn's post about having a recent cold - I went ot my GP once for chest pains and he told me I had strained a muscle when sneezing. Hope your news is a good as that. Still, best to know for sure.
