Could someone tell me what to do on very rainy days to relieve the pain I feel
in my sternum. I hurts so bad. It's almost dibilitating.

Hi Delvoura,

Are you talking about an achy arthritic type pain? Do you only get it with rainy weather or some other times as well? How long have you had it and what have you already tried?

It's a achy feeling and sometimes it feels like sharp needles in my chest. Pain
starts before it rains and after. I have tried taking 1,000 mg of tylenol for the
pain.

Hi Del.
How long ago was your surgery?
It takes 6 months to a full year for nerves to regenerate. Nerve pain can be terrible and inconsolable. Maybe this is what you are experiencing along with arthritic type pain.
Here's to hoping the sun shines on you always !
Take care. Lulabelle1

Hi Lulabeele,

It has been 2 years since my surgery. I get severe pain right before it rains, during and after. When ever there is any type of dampness. This has been
happening since my surgery. I live in Philadelphia, and we recently had 5 days of rain. This had me in so much pain it was terrible. Thank you for caring appreciate it.

I don't know, Delvoura. It sounds like your chest is acting like some joints do when they are arthritic. I hate to hear you are having problems like this...what does your doctor think?

Weather change, rib ache

Weather change, rib ache

After my first AVR, one rib in particular would ache if there was a change of weather. This went on for yrs, until I had my 2nd AVR and for some strange reason it no longer aches with weather changes. I used to joke and say there was going to be a weather change because my rib would be aching. When the weather did it's thing, my rib stopped aching.
Strange, but this also happens with people who have had broken bones.

Hi Delvoura,
First I am sorry your hurting like you do. :( I am not sure if it is true, but I have heard that women tend to have a more sernum pain then men after surgery. My surgeon had me take over the counter 'alleve' to help with the pain. How that would affect your comadin, would be between you and the clinic. I also take viox, which is an anti-inflamatory. I take it as needed and it has very little if any affect on my INR. I take 1 to maybe 4 pills a week for bone and muscle pain. Some people have had stomach bleeding with viox, but I have never had a problem with it. I don't know what I would do without it.

I just want to thank everyone for their input. I will be working with my doctor
to find some relief. :)

chest pain incision

chest pain incision

So glad to come across this topic. Like so many issues I have I don't get very good answers from my doctors, thats why I am here!
I am one year post op stated to have chest pains. I thought something was wrong with my heart. So I had an echo ASAp and it was normal. Tumrs out the pain eminated from tenderness in my rib right over my heart. I just didn't think it was possible to have pain a year later. My primary care doctor said it was from having my rib cage torn open.
I go to the gym eveyday and they have a jacuzzi. Now I position my chest in front of the hot water bubbles and seems to help.

Like Mark, I take an nsaid (Celebrex) for arthritic pain, but it does hurt the stomach so I take it maybe 2-3 times per week. It helps. Maybe your dr will let you try it - if he/she thinks it might be arthritic but doesn't sound like it to me because you'd probably have the pain in other places, too.
