I had my aortic valve and assending aortic anurysm replaced in May of 2005. I went through 24 weeks of cardiac rehab. I have been doing 2-3 miles on the treadmill 3-4 times per week at setting speed 4mph. Today I was only about 5 min into my walk when I started to get a sharp pain in my chest followed by an irregular heart beat. I stoped immediatly and sat down. The pain subsided right away and the irregular heart beat went away after about 10 min. This is the first time this as ever happened. I am taking Toprol XL 25mg and 325mg asprin daily. Any ideas on what is causing this?
Thanks

This is something you should have checked. The fact that it subsided once you stopped working out, indicates an activity induced problem of some kind.

Please get to the doctor. And, should you have any more pain before getting to the doctor, please go to the ER.

There are alternative explanations, and I hope one of them turns out to be the case for you. It could be gas. It could be a spasm of a tiny intercostal muscle. The spasm can be extremely sharp, and can feel like a heart attack, at least to someone who has never had one.

The PACs/PVCs would then be from the rush of adrenaline from the pain, excitement, and fear.

However, Gina is correct. It would be derelict to fail to check it out.

Best wishes,

Thanks so much for the quick reply. You all are wonderful like that. I will get it checked out asap.

Yes, and please let us know what came of your visit to the drs. Sending a bunch of good vibes your way. Hope it's nothing serious. :)

Sharp chest pains + arrythmia = See your cardiologist.

Take care now,
