Hi, I posted a while ago- but I am trying again since there were no responses.

has anyone ever experienced themself, or know why somebody might have chest pain when its cold out? Its more like the feeling of a rock on the chest. It happens when its cold, during a light walk. Nothing strenuous. There is no history of blocked arteries, or other heart disease, other than the valve replacement.

Does this sound familar to anyone, or know why this could be happening?

I don't know the answer, and I havent't had that experience, but I would make it a point to find out from your cardiologist. I don't think it's good if you feel like there's a rock in your chest!

cardiologists tell us that in heart issues, extremes of hot or cold are not good and affect us. We should avoid them if we can. Maybe it's because the heart must work harder? I don't know the real explanation, tho. Maybe some of the members will have the reasons.

Sorry

Sorry

I don't have an answer. I don't walk in the cold. I still have sharp pain from the incisions but nothing like you are describing.I would check with the cardiologist.

Angina? You better let the Cardiologist know about it. It could be a sign that something else is going on.

Cold causes the blood vessels in the heart to constrict. Therefore we should NOT shovel. However, I don't think you should have this feeling when only walking in the cold - and I'm assuming you're not walking in super-frigid weather (like way below zero)?

Do you have asthma? The cold could cause a feeling of severe tightness in the chest.

No asthma, that I know of..
When I say cold.. its seattle cold, so 40ish usually. Nothing fridgid. Its areally weird feeling, and the only way i know how to describe is like a rock in the chest. It feels like something is in there.. I end up walking one loop, then go back inside because its uncomfortable. I am approaching my 6 month AVR check-up, I just didnt know if I should even bother bringing it up... I feel like such a whimp complaining about every little ache and pain I have. But at the same time, I FEAR every little ache and pain!

thanks everyone-

Like everyone else said, CHECK IT OUT with your CARDIOLOGIST. There are several possible causes for this sensation and your cardiologist is the best person to sort it out.
