I had my 3 year check up last week...an echo and visit with doctor. The echo showed a tiny bit more leakage at the stitch area of the valve. Since surgery it has been termed insignificant; now termed minor...still no big deal, but Dr. doesn't like it. Also more concerned that my bp is not cooperating...I go back in 6 weeks. If it is still high, he will up my meds which he reduced last year. He also said he thought it would improve after I retire next year. It scares me ... my mother died of a stroke and had high blood pressure for a long time. He didn't seem as upset as I was, but oh well, I'll do what I can...think calm thoughts, eat right, exercise and lose those 10 # I put back on over the last year. Just wanted to whine! Thanks.

Jean I haven't been a member of this forum very long but I have found that these wonderful people on here don't care if we whine and complain. They are there for us "thank goodness!" I can definitely see where you would be concerned. If you have read any of my posts, I've lost all my family to cancer or heart so all I can do is try and stay ahead of any problems that come up.

I sure wish I only at 10 pounds to loose. :( :(

You are in my prayers and you hang there and take care of yourself.

Hi Jean

Hi Jean

What type of valve do you have?.......Being a teacher..I agree with the doctor..Retire next year and less stress. :D :D Helping my 6th grader with his homework..I know must raise my b/p.. :D Why do they think they know more than us? :p :p :p He will ask for help..then tell me, NO ..that's not right    Could not deal with kids all day..All their energy   Hope everything takes care of itself. Thanks Glenda and Bonnie. I made a mistake, I had my surgery 4 years ago. I am feeling more positive after some pep talks to myself. Yesterday when I got home from school, my bp was 172/70. Took a nap, it only went down 3 pts on the upper and 1 on the lower. I went on a half hour brisk walk and it had gone down to 139/64. I was surprised. I would have thought exercise would up it.

So, in addition to watching the salt and losing weight, I do know the exercise is vital.

Bonnie, I have a homograph aoritic valve. Doctor specifically said it was fine. Just wanted me to get the bp under control as he felt it was driving the leak.

It is a great help to be able to come to you and talk out my fears. You just can't do it with friends or spouse or adult children. They don't understand like we understand each other. Thanks again.

Aerobic exercise decreases bp (after cool down period); improves circulation, opens up blood vessels. Sometimes after cardiac rehab the bp goes down to really low levels.

I'm retiring the end of this month. I expect improvement in how I feel within first week. :D
