it hasn't come on yet, but there is a story about valve replacement? it sounds like it's a non-surgical approach?????

Hi Carolyn,
If you miss the newscast, I posted an article from the NY Times this morning. It is "aortic valve replacement by catheter" and I placed it in the new advancements thread.

That's still surgery, just minimally invasive.

More so than going in from the side (through the ribs under the right arm) and it would speed up recovery time.

I'm sure it would be limited to only "simple" cases where minimal complications (if any) are expected.

Certainly couldn't do me like that, the plumbings all wrong and they might end up cutting out the wrong valve by mistake!!!!

Sorry, inside joke that probably only CHD "kids" would get... =)

Just so happened to catch the segment. Amazing. Surgery lasted 3 hours. They preformed it cath style. The pateit was in his 70's and stated he was not stong enough for conventional surgery. They did add at the end....that the patients that had this done........success lasted only about a year.

It may be worth it to an older patient. This particular one was out of the hospital in 3 days. And back to work in 4!

Would like them to work on redo's in this fashion ;)

As technology advances, hopefully this will be the standard way to do non-complicated VR's 10 years from now and we will be hearing about something even less invasive on the horizen. :)
