I was readmitted a few days ago because of ongoing problems with Afibs. They finally discharged me on Coumadin with my tissue valve with the idea that my home cardiologist would monitor me for Afibs and if he thought they were due to surgery trauma like so,many on here have experienced, he would cease the Coumadin when he was convinced I was no longer experiencing them.

Anyway, while I was in the hospital I developed a love affair with sugar-free Popsicles because they soothed my throat from the irritation caused by the breathing tube. Yesterday at home first thing I did after getting home I jumped in bed and ate a couple of Popsicles and immediately kicked into AFIB. After my throat had warmed up to body temperature, the Afibs promptly disappeared. Later, last night I repeated the Popsicles thing and again, I got AFIB. Wierd, my esophagus must run so close to my heart that somehow temperature is influencing heart rate. Oh we'll, just thought I would share.

On another subject .....does anybody know of a watch that not only detects pulse rate but also notifies you that you are in AFIB?

Hi canon4me,

Not sure if this helps - when I first started getting aFib I was told not to have ice cream, ice or any other cold substances. I was also warned against caffeine and chocolate. I ignored the latter, but know cold things did bring on aFib.

Phil.

Interesting observation.
The first time I went into A-fib after surgery was while I was drinking ice cold water through a straw.
