Anyone else on Carvedilol I have been feeling a little more tired than usual I'm thinking I may be dehydrated but was wondering if anyone has any thoughts about the med in general.

One of Carvedilol's side effects is fatigue and low BP. I was put on it after my surgery from September to February to lower my heart rate. My doctor weaned me off of it slowly. Keep an eye on your BP while taking it if you have a machine at home.

I was on Carvedilol post surgery and after 3 months and progressively feeling worse I asked the cardio to take me off of it.
I was put back on Metoprol which I had been on the first few weeks after surgery before the failed change to Carvedilol.
Carvedilol caused me to dream every night usually it was stressful and I would wake up exhausted. I also suffered a permanent low level headache for the 3 months I was on it.
I was that fatigued all of the time I felt a danger driving a car and seldom drove.
My judgement and reaction times were severely impeded; it felt like an ongoing hangover except without the good time that caused the hangover.

I take the stuff and it causes me to be very fatigued about 45 minutes after I take it. The fatigue lasts for about an hour. I have a little headache all the time also.

The other side affect is less pleasant. Diarhea. But only sometimes. I'm not sure what sets it off. Some days it's not a problem, some days it is.


Other than that the stuff works for me. My BP is under control and my heart doesnt get as twitchy as it used to.

That is the generic for Coreg. It is usually started as a low dose and increased with time. I was switched to it after using Metoprolol after surgery. It can do wonders for folks like me with heart failure. I have not had any side effects. It helps keep my a-fib under control. I am being considered by a specialist to stop cardizem and increase the Coreg again. I'm now at 25 mg twice a day.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Whenever you start feeling a new symptom you always have in the back of your head something more serious is going on. I actually have an echo/cardiologist appointment next week so I'll mention it. I'm on a lower dose 6.25mg twice a day. I'll keep an eye on my blood pressure. I have always had a tendency to be dehydrated due to some GI absorption problems so that might be the answer.

I have been on it for 1.5 years 25mg a 2x a day.It still makes me tired even after all this time. I also have alot of dreams and wake up many mornings like I was "busy" all night.

I was started on Carvedilol in May after my cath showed signs of myopathy. Like Lou said it is a wonder drug for some people. My cardiologist started me on 6.25, then basically had me double the dose every week (as long as I had no side effects which I didnt) until I reached 25mg x2 daily back in july. I've noticed a slight drop in energy but not that much, no other side effects that i've noticed. It did help with my condition though and my LV function and EF have improved to where my MV replacement has been put off for the time being. I've been on the Coreg/Carvedilol such a short time my surgeon is taking a wait and see approach, he's hoping my EF will continue to improve.

EF in August 45-50% after Coreg/Carvedilol

I am happy for your EF improvement. It is very interesting to read that Coreg/Carvedilol helped with your EF!! Excuse me for asking: did your doctor confirm that your EF improved due to Coreg?! If so, I am willing to go back on it if it will help mine which is 50% since surgery (strangely it was 65% before surgery).

I asked if it was specifically the coreg and you know Dr's they wont commit to anything but his words were "for some people it is a miracle drug". He added Aldactone (diuretic) to the regiment a few weeks ago which he said could help as well. The way I'm looking at it is, my EF had dropped again (its been on a downward trend the last few years but considerably worse this year), I started Coreg and now my EF is up without any other treatment. Could be something else but with the minimal side effects its had on me I have no problem taking it. I fingers crossed my EF is at 50% or better when my next echo comes around in february.

Thanks, Mat, for answering my question. I wish your EF continues to improve. I had to stop Coreg in my case because it lowered my BP to 70/50 and I was feeling dizzy. I am going to check with my surgeon next week and give myself another chance to try it. who knows, I may tolerate it more now especially that I am not restricted from salt as before.

I followed up with my cardiologist with an echo tdoay. My EF went from around a 35-40% one month ago to 60% after being switched to the Coreg/Carvedilol. Good news.

Great news. I am happy for you. When did your doctor switch you to Coreg/carvedilor? When was you previous echo?

My previous echo/switch to Coreg was in mid-July so I haven't been on it long at all. He does foresee this being a lifelong medication though.

I took coreg for a while but it sapped my energy too much and my cardio switched me off it.

For some people, it is hugely helpful.

This doesn't answer anyone's question, but every time I see the word carvedilol, it makes me laugh. I imagine mispronouncing it as

Carve-a-dillo, like for supper--

Maybe our dear departed Bonnie could have made up a stew with a "dillo", instead of a possum.

I was on Carvedilol for a while after a surgery I had. So many of the side effects of Carvedilol applied to me. I had bad diarrhea, joint pain, and even severe drowsiness.
