I want to thank ValveReplacement members in helping educate me on bridge therapy and ACT. I have seen an orthopedic doctor for carpal tunnel surgery on both hands. The ortho doctor said I would simply need to stop taking my Coumadin 5-6 days before surgery. He said he has operated on several patients taking Coumadin before. I asked him if that was the proper protocol, about the risk of stroke and if he would consult with my cadiologist, etc. His tune and attitude quickly changed. He did say he would work with my cardio and they have a protocol to follow.

Has anyone on ACT had carpal hand surgery? Does anyone know where I can look up the "official" protocol for carpal tunnel surgery and ACT in Oklahoma?
Thanks again, you guys and gals are LifeSavers!

There is no "official" protocol - OK?

Here is what it boils down to

You have an aortic valve = Moderate risk of clotting
You should bridge beforehand starting 1 day after stopping warfarin and ending the night before the procedure.

Carpal Tunnel is a low risk for major bleeding (meaning needing a transfusion).
You should restart warfarin and heparin the night of the surgery and keep doing the heparin until your INR is again therapeutic - maybe two days after it hits the range.

Before you go ahead with the surgery please consider going to a Chiropractor first. I went and can honestly say that the pain is gone 99% of the time and before that it was terrible and I didn't know where to turn.
The Chiropractor who is treating me also does Muscle Response Testing (MRT) and that is what eliminated the Carpal Tunnel and also the pain in both my hands. My PCP told me that I had Arthritis but I just don't fill that profile and did not believe him. With just a few adjustments in my neck and back the pain in both my hands is virtually gone. If I would've listened to my regualr PCP he would have pumped me full of the high powered, dangerous Arthritis drugs that do no good other than destroy your joints.
Think about it.
