I will be having my cardioversion May 2nd. I had blood work today for INR (even though I test myself, I guess they need a lab result), potassium level. I get there at 6:30am, woo-hoo!! Hopefully, it works and I go home mid morning with my heart in rhythm. I spoke to an elderly man in my dog obedience class, and he said he was in a-fib, and had stopped taking his coumadin many months ago! He told Kaiser when they called from their coumadin clinic, and nothing was done about it! He had never heard of cardioversion. So, I'll be having a talk with him when I go back to class about my experience.
Think Happy Thoughts!!

I have added you to the family calendar Gail and a cardioversion is much like when my ICD delivers a justifed therapy and I feel more energetic after every time

positve VIBES and "happy thoughts" to you

Good luck, Gail!

Thoughts/prayers en route....

Gail - Let's hope it is an electrifying and exciting experience. My mom had cardioversion at around age 75 or so, and she did just fine. She said one minute they told her she would nap a bit, the next minute she woke up and we were all standing around wondering what was next. She stayed overnight because the procedure was late in the day and they wanted to monitor her for a bit.

Gee, that guy in your obedience class is a walking time bomb, if he's still in a-fib.
My husband had a friend at the gym (racquetball) who was in a-fib. He took his coumadin for about 3 months, then quit. Apparently he did not understand that it was necessary to continue.
Anyway, the guy soon had a massive stroke. 3 years later, he's walking with the help of a muscle stimulator. Such a waste! I know you can't give your dog-class friend medical advice, but REALLY! It's scary how people fail to comprehend their medical conditions.

Hi all you well wishers! My cardioversion worked, and I am no longer in A-Fib, so that's great! I only had to have one zap and my rhythm was back to normal. I was out for a short time, the whole thing only took a few minutes, and they have you wait an hour after you awake before they let you go home. I am to take it easy for a couple of days and then slowly get back to my normal exercise, etc. No lifting over 10lbs, but I already forgot and picked up the 18 lb dog, oops!!! That scared me and I just sat and listened to my heart, but all was okay. Now, I seem to be a bit aprehensive that it will come back, but I hope to get over that real soon.
The doc changed my Sotolal because my heart rate after the conversion was only 53. I go in for an EKG in a week, and see Dr again in 2 weeks.

Thanks for all the positive vibes sent my way!

LOL! It is amazing how quickly we forget ... or, in my case, don't realize how heavy something really is. I did that sort of thing a few times right after my 11/11/2011 open heart surgery. But, everything seems to be OK ;).
