Hi,

I just got a call from the NYC cardiologist ( Dr. Rosenbaum ) with whom I had an appointment on sept. 16th to cancel our appointment ( Jewish holiday ). I already have a non-refundable ticket to NYC ... the good thing is I can get some dental work done on the 17th so the trip wont be a waste.

I am now looking for a good cardiologist in the Chicago area, I have fairly good insurance coverage (PPO) and I need to go for a three-month evaluation from my initial echo. The last cardiologist I saw wanted to get a CT done to rule out co-arctation of the aorta -- I think a better test for this is an MRI, I dont remember them measuring BP in the legs so I dont know if this is really indicated ( My initail impression of this cardiologist didnt give me a lot of faith in his abilities or intent ).

Can someone recommend a good cardiologist, I am looking for a physician in a larger center with good test facilities ( 3-D echo, MRI ).

Thanks,
Burair.

I called up Dr. Rosenbaum's office and he will see me on Friday -- the 17th, but they cant do an MRI then. So I need to get this done here most likely.

I am still looking for a competent Cardiologist in the chicago area, I havent decided where I will pursue treatment. I can either stay here to finish my thesis or go back to NYC.

Burair - we have a few members right there in Chicago and maybe they can drop in.

Gina's there in the area and I know she has a cardio, probably a few others - Gina?

Hi Burair,

Welcome. Check this link. www.midwestheart.com. They are cutting edge for diagnostics. Edward hospital in Naperville has one of 2 (in the country) non-invasive proceedures for preforming cardiac catherazations. Which is 100% necessary before proceeding. I have found it is difficult to find a 'one stop shop' so to speak. For "upkeep'/surgery. My valve replacement was close to 6 years ago down south.

Feel very comfortable with this team for "upkeep". Surgery..not so certain I would go with anyone within the city. Houston would most likley be my first choice. Going with #1 like Cleavland would be ok too. Just less personal,. i.e. you may never meet your surgeon, etc.

All the best to you!

Thank you

Thank you

I saw the MC's on your site kf2691 -- i wondered about the number -- 2691 and realized they were the last digits of each year you owned when you signed on. Like your site and your interests ( share at least two :) ), my main interest is more mundane -- large accelerators and their physics :) We can exchange show off tours...

Gina -- I read your story, you had a wild ride, I am glad you're still ticking -- actually I am a bit upset about hospital treatment when we had our son, perhaps its not unhealthy to be a bit paranoid about your family's health care ( like they sometimes tell me I am ). I didnt know about the cath -- thats useful info.

Thanks a lot for your replies, I have already been to a cardio at Midwest at Edwards and didnt communicate well with him -- but this may be just a clash of personalities, I am open to visiting another at their clinic if possible. I will also look into the Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

I live in the burbs of Chicago, and there are 3 great major heart center hospitals here, Rush, Northwestern, and Univ. of Chicago. I had my surgery at Rush, and my cardiologist there is Dr. Clifford Kavinsky. He takes his time with you, is available, and is just a very nice person in evey way, I cannot recommend him enough. Before I had my surgery I did the rounds of surburban docs and was generally not impressed. Dr. Kavinsky is way ahead of anyone else I met.

The one new option since my surgery is the Rush/Copley hospital in Aurora, that would be closer to you. Many of the docs that work at Rush University also work at Rush/Copley, although I do not know anyone there by name I might recommend.

You are welcome :). If you do opt for NMH, let me know...I'll give you my cardiologist's name.

BTW, for surgery, you _might_ want to check out Children's Memorial Hospital. That's where all of my surgeries have been done (last one, January 6, 2003).....

Burair.....

Try Vincent Buffalino. He's top dog at Midwest Heart. Wonderful man. Really listens to your concerns.

Good luck.
