Hi! I'm new to this website and noticed people from all over joining in with information, updates and questions. I think this is a great site. I had my AVR in Pittsburgh and a wonderful cardiologist. Dr Cohen has now moved onto a New York hospital and since I live in Niles, OH now, I am searching for a closer cardiologist. If there is anyone in the Youngstown/Warren area with a good cardiologist--please let me know. Thanks.
Renee

Hi Renee, and welcome! Finding a new cardiologist is hard, especially when you had a good one before. My card moved elsewhere last summer, and sent a list of all the cardiologists in the area to choose from, which was not much help. Several of them I rejected off hand, since I'd had experience with them before. I was able to email my old cardiologist, and he gave me more specific recommendations. I've only seen the new one once, and I was not impressed. Can your old cardiologist give you any recommendations?

I sent a letter of recommendation to UPMC since he is still doing research out of Pittsburgh but no patients. That was about a month ago and I haven't heard any response yet. I have until August before my yearly check up is necessary. I hope this web site will help as well as many friends/relatives give advise. Like any doctor/hospital/surgeons, everyone will like and/or dislike any doctor you think may be good. I hope to narrow it down by August.

Welcome Renee,
I too can sympathize with having to find a new cardiologist. I've been through enough bad ones to know that a good one is something you don't want to lose.

Have you looked into home testing for your INR. Just thought I'd mention it, since you spoke of it in another post. One of our forums here is monitored by QAS and they are VERY helpful in being the go-between for you and your insurance company.

Welcome Renee

Welcome Renee

You live very close to the number ONE Heart Center in the USA, Cleveland Clinic (CCF).

I reccomend that you make a call to CCF and interview a couple cardio's !
If you would like some reccomendations, as I have dealt with many, I would be more than glad to offer my opinion.

Feel fre to send me an IM and I will forward my information.

Again, welcome to this great site.

Ben
