My mom just found out she has a very narrow aortic valve and may need surgery. She was referred to a cardiologist by her general doctor, but i want to do my homework a bit and make sure its the right one for us.

Anyone have any personal experience with a cardiologist (or a surgeon) anywhere in Massachussets (or surrounding areas) that you would highly reccomend?

I dont know anything at all about her diagnosis yet, she's had an echo with a general doctor...and he wants her to see a cardiologist.

Thanks!!

Boston has two of the five top rated Heart Centers in the U.S.
Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women's are always listed very high in surveys for heart surgery.

I had both my OHS at Mass General and (bite my tongue), should I ever need a third surgery, I wouldn't dream of going anywhere but Mass General. The care I received there was excellent both times.
Sadly, my surgeon died a year ago from a very fast cancer. But I would not hesitate to go to several others there I have met.

Best wishes to you and your Mom.

If you're looking in the Boston area, I have seen Dr. Eric Isselbacher @ Mass General. He is very good. If you're in Western mass area (Springfield and surrounding) Northampton Cardiology doctors are very good. You can google Mass General Heart Center and get good info on that site.
Good Luck,
Elaine

YEP, Mass. General Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospital at two of the Best in the Nation.

I recall reading where some members simply called either of those hospitals, told them they needed a Cardiologist and they were set up with appointments for evaluation, after which appropriate Surgeon(s) were recommended.
