Nan

Well, I saw my cardio yesterday and he says that I cannot wait and play around to have surgery.

He will try and help with my insurance to get to either NY Presbyterian Weill Cornell or Cleveland, more likely Weill Cornell as my insurance at least has a contract with the hospital, just not with any of the surgeons.

But he says if we don't hear from the insurance within a couple of weeks, we need to move forward and do the surgery locally...that would mean Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY or St. Peter's in Albany, NY.

He says that they have a new surgeon at Vassar who is excellent and was on NY Magazine's top doctor list in 2004...Dr. Mohan Roy Sarabu.

He is more concerned about the blocked artery and my angina which seems to now be unstable, as opposed to the valve.

So it seems that I will be having by-pass and MVR a lot sooner than I had thought! So much for my thinking I could wait til December or January!

Hey, Look at this way, you get it out of the way and heal up just in time to enjoy the Holidays. Its really a shame you have to battle with Insurance Co on what hospital to use.Hope you get it worked out.
Good Luck

Gee Nan,
I hate to hear that it's being moved up, but at least you will feel much better by the time the holidays roll around (as Randy mentioned). Getting the angina under control should be a big relief.:)

Hope you get the surgeon and the hospital that you want and that you are in great shape to enjoy the holidays. Be sure and let us know when you have a date and place.

Oh, Nan-

I was hoping that you would have more time without having surgery. I hope you can get the place of your choice.

I'll be thinking about you. Keep us informed on what happens.

Best wishes Nan as you begin to prepare for your surgery. I hope that your cardio is successful convincing your insurance company to let you go where you want. It's a darn shame that you have to deal with the added stress of dealing with your health insurance company. I'm crossing my fingers and toes for you!:D and sending postive thoughts and a big hug!

Take Care!
Susie

I'm sure that was a shocker. It's good and it's bad. Good that it's going to get taken care of, but bad because you weren't ready just yet.

Thanks everybody for your support. It is greatly appreciated.

My cardio also put me on a nitro patch which is certainly helping the angina even while it is giving me one heck of a headache (even with tylenol)!

When I have more information, I'll let you all know. Thanks again.

Your cardio is being prudent in recommending surgery ASAP given your unstable angina. Best to get it 'fixed'.

I hope you able to get your insurance squared away quickly so that you can proceed.

Nan, I'll be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Please keep us posted on what you find out as far as where the surgery will be and exactly when. Keep your chin up! LINDA

It is a shame they are being contrary about surgeons and hospitals...I wish it wasnt like that....

It will be nice to be all healed and feeling good as new by the holidays though...

Hope you get the hospital & surgeon you want
