Hi

I recently had a CT scan to check my aorta size. I've been searching the internet for an image of a normal sized aorta so I can compare it against mine but haven't had much luck. Can someone point me to some 3D CT images of a normal aorta?

I've attached a couple of my images if your interested in having a look, the ascending aorta was measured at 4.2cm, the echo measured it at 3.7cm. I questioned the cardio on the difference and he said the CT may have overestimated the measurement by a few millimetres.

Thanks
Mark

This 3d stuff is so new that there may not be much to be found. Looking at your pics, doesn't look too bad though. I'll keep checking.

My cardio (and 2nd opinion cardio) has told me that the catscan is more accurate than the echo in measuring the aorta.

Theyre COOL pics Mark!...

I just had my "after" 3D CT done and cant wait to compare it to my "before" pic.

At a guess, I would say a "normal" aorta is approx. the size of your descending aorta...your Descending Aorta looks prety good to me from the views you posted.

I agree with Ross...your "Ascending" although dilatated, looks quite good at present, mine had a yucky bulge and was a bit bigger which is why I had the operation done.
