Carbo medics or st. Judes

Our 2 year baby girl needs a Mitral Valve.

We can choose between Carbo medics or st. Judes.

We are thinking about the st. Judes

Is there any info on valve replacement and child < 5 year ?

Although I cannot help with the child info, I did want to welcome you. We have a number of members with children who have had valve replacement so I am sure you will hear soon.

hope it's not too late. My daughter Katie is five. She had her common AV valve (mitral and tricuspid are merged as one) replaced last summer with a Carbomedics. We have had no problems with the valve and is the one our surgeon preferred and felt most comfortable with. To be honest, I would have preferred the OnX, but our surgeon did not feel comfortable with it as he didn't feel it had a long enough track record behind it. I didn't fight it as we had another complex surgical procedure going on as well that day (the fontan) and wanted the one he felt most comfortable with. I have no regrets.

We also have a mom on here whose daughter has the OnX and another mom whose daughter has the StJudes. Both are doing well.

Either choice will be fine. When is your daughter's surgery? Please keep us posted so we can include her in our prayers. Many hugs. Janet
