The building behind us was featured in a film. The first person to identify it will win 100 points good for nothing.

For those of you that remember, I mentioned in the past where my wife was from, this building is in her home town.

Have fun guessing.

Good guess but I am sorry, it is incorrect.

Another hint: The film was made in 1984.

Post another picture, David, so I can try again . . . . and don't make them pictures of downtown Atlanta!:p

I remember your wife is from Colombia...

Is that good for 25 points?!?!

[edit - after some research, I can't find the name of the building but Geebee must be correct because it is definitely from Romancing the Stone]

But Romancing the Stone was made in Mexico, because Columbia was considered too dangerous!

Wasn't "Romancing..." filmed in Mexico?

Is the location in the picture San Pedro Square?

My guess as to the building would be either a government building (flags flying) or the Palace of the Inquisition..

Romancing the Stone was filmed in Mexico but it was set in Cartagena and some of the buildings shown were from Cartagena.

What she said...;)

And I think I read "Veracruz" in Mexico?

But I've never seen the movie.

Las Bovedas, Cartagena, Columbia. Romancing the Stone???????

Ding ding ding, we have a winner!

They did actually film some of the movie in Colombia. This building is in the old city in Cartagena. They filled the square with dirt to make it look more like a town in the country. They had their dance scene here. And yes, it is a government building but portrayed as a hotel for the movie.

Sorry for the delay, I was out riding my bike in sunny 70 degree weather. :p
