Hi everyone, I have been on this site a few times and you guys are just great. I have learned so much from all of you. First let me say thank you. In 1997 I have a mvp repair. Off and on through the years I have had a few bouts of a fib. I am now on coumadin. Since February, I have been to the hospital about 6 times in a fib. I have been converted back to sinus rhythm each time. The drs. have tried putting me on anti rythmia drugs but I get very very sick with them. So I cannot take them. Period.
The doctors want me to have a ablation which I realize only works 50 to 70 percent of the time. However, when I was in the hospital for a fib yesterday, a Surgeon that knows a friend of mine came down to see me. I told him about the a fib episodes , now 6 times in 5 months and I told him about the repair on my mvp. The repair started to regurtutate about a year after the repair, it is now at moderate level. The surgeon who did this told me that it would need doing over again proberly in 5 years, it is now 7 years since my operation.
So telling this surgeon, that I met yesterday in the emergency room he suggested that he would take me as a patient to do the Maze proceedure and he would replace my valve with a pig valve. I am 58 years old. I come from Rhode Island and I would feel better having this done in Boston. (My sister had the same thing done last year and is doing great) I have made an appointment to see her Surgeon in August. I guess what I am asking you all is even though the valve as of yet is not in need of repair or replacement but will in the future, does not need to be fixed YET. I do need the Maze proceedure, but do not want just the Maze done and then go back in for the third time to have the valve fixed. I am wondering what your feedback would be to this. And I am also wondering if anyone here has had this done? If so could you please tell me what the results were? I so appreciate any information or advice that you could give me. Thank you so very much. Jenny
