Delicate subject. Am hoping post surgery sex will be better, due to better circulation. Anyone have any experiences to share? I'm hoping the outcome vis a vis my AVR and sex will be positive! :D

Sometimes better, sometimes not. How's that for an answer. I had a sudden valve failure and went down hill in the course of three days, and sex was the last thing on my mind during that time  Do well post-op, see how it goes, and report back to us.
It not like you're going to not have surgery, if the concensus is that sex is worse; so once you're feeling better, see what comes up :p . What's the worst that can happen?
Seriously, it does not take very much vascular pressure for that area of plumbing to do its job, so you're not likely to see much difference on that part, but hopefully you will feel better and more energetic overall, and that should be a positive in that department.

I don't think the surgery makes as much difference as all the medications you may or may not be on.

Valve surgery can make a big difference, particularly for a male. Valve-related problems can cause a lack of desire in the first place. Arrhythmias or chest pain can cause trepidation about sex that can also lead to a lack of desire or a level of concern that can interrupt the ability to perform.

Women with valve problems can also suffer from this fear, or actual chest pain, and hold back from their enjoyment. Even a valve patient's partner can shy away from sex or take away the enjoyment, out of fear of harming his or her significant other.

Most importantly for men, Aortic or Mitral Regurgitation or Stenosis can cause "pelvic steal." While it's not much of a problem for a "one-minute-wonder," it can really wreck an evening for a guy who is used to taking his time, particularly if he is energetic in his pursuits.

What happens is that the prolonged physical activity gets the heart pumping to compensate for the valve problems. Somewhere along the way, the body signals an oxygen emergency and the troops are called home (work with me on this). Sometimes a short break can bring relief, sometimes the candle's out for the night.

Fortunately, if there isn't other overt heart damage, valve surgery relieves the pressure on the heart to perform, which leaves other parts alone to perform as well.

Remember the sternum for the first couple of months. Anything resembling a pushup can potentially cause bone-knitting problems that can evolve into long-term pain in your rib cage. Adapt your style to compensate.

Best wishes,

Well..............

Well..............

with the number 69 in your user name, it figures you'd wanna talk about sex! :D Seriously, if you do a search, you should come up (no pun intended) with the infamous sex thread that had about 250000 posts or so. Maybe something in there will address your concerns. Hugs. J.

It's embarrassing to ask, but does anti-coagulant pose a bleeding threat to the redish looking, well, you know who?

In case you didn't notice temp69, this is not a delicate subject here, so long as we don't get into specifics! :D

I think we are all a bunch of crazed horny people. Maybe I shouldn't speak for everyone, but..........

Dustin: no.

However, if sandpaper, razor blades, cigar cutters, meat tenderizing hammers, steel wool, or tin snips are involved in any of your passionate pursuits, all bets are off.

Best wishes,

Pumphead here ......uh, what exactly is this thing called 'sex' ya'll talking about? Kinda rings a bell!
I don't know about the circulation deal (makes sense though) but I do know that renewed, over-the-top high energy resulting from valve surgery surely would help things out in the sex department!! ;) .....from what I can remember!!!!
Well, I'm off to the gym!:D

That's good to hear, I'm not into power tools and stuff. I've always been better with my hands.:)

An interesting one...

An interesting one...

Are medications like Viagra and Cialis contrainidcated for Warfarin users?

I know they actually prescribe Viagra to heart patients sometimes for the "Vaso-Dilatory" effect.

Although the extra blood flow from a good op could render them unnecessary.
