My husband was very active taking yoga and hot yoga doing cardio and lifting weights prior to his successful minimally invasive bicuspid aortic valve replacement end of June this year (no mechanical valve used and is not on blood thinners) but he can't get through to his cardiologist to get a yes or no to his taking hot yoga. Anyone have personal knowledge or experience about whether it is advisable to his taking hot yoga. Thanks

Unless your surgery went horribly wrong, and there are not other severe medical issues you are not mentioning then basically it goes like this:

1) if you could do it before : you can do it after
2) if you are unsure about an activity ease in gently - listen to your body.
3) surgery is to restore your life not make you a living cripple

I used to terrify my surgeon with my stories after my first surgery cos I kept doing motocross (when I was in my teens). MX is a bit more active than Hot Yoga and I had a full open chest sternectomy. (well I've had 3 now)

Here I am at 50 still riding bikes. And mechanical valve and "blood thinners" (a term I loathe) have nothing to do with it. I hope your husband is not young because if he's less than 50 then he's going to be having more of these surgeries if you didn't get a mechanical.

I'll agree with pellicle on this one. I was 63 at the time of my surgery, and in pretty good shape for my age. Now, 4 1/2 years later, I do more than I did prior to surgery. I am careful and am aware of my limitations (and mortality), but I, too, underwent this surgery for a more complete life, not less.

Is HOT YOGA some kind of Yoga sexual practice? lol

PD:
I googled it, and it is indeed yoga performed in a room with elevated temperature!
