My inr has been GREEEAT! for most part accept now would like some advise please.I take 52 mg weekly and staying good for along time at 3.1 ,3.2
forever and eating no changes there but feel my activity levels gone way up
more in the last while

Anyway sitting yesterday at 3.6 which im not too concerned but i take 52mg warfarin weekly alternating 7and 8 mg and i took my 7 yesterday thats fine and had a heeping bowl of salade,i mean big bowl salade i was craving
and felt inr at 3.6 it wouldnot do me harm to eat what i wanted of it.

Can i just stay my usual 7 and 8 alternate daily at 52 weekly or cus my activity increased doesnt mean it will continue increased(LOL)
or do or should i lower my doseage and check in a week or not be silly at 3.6 and be concerned as really im not and havent had to adjust 52mg in ages for. along, long time ANY ADVISE ANYONE........THANKYOU

I'd stay on the dose. Mine was 4.2 today (range to 3.5) I'm staying at my dose.

Deb, if anything, activity will lower your INR; I would leave well enough alone (no dose change), and check again in a week just to make sure it isn't a trend. 3.6 isn't that high, my range is 2.5 to 3.5, so I am close to that quite often.

I would stay on your current dosing. 52mg isn't all that hi. I was on 70mg when I was much younger and more active. If it remains at the hi end of your range for a month or so, then you might want to drop your dose a little.

Okay, everyone here knows that I'm no expert, but I've been on one heck of a roller-coaster ride all summer and I think I'm finally getting off this ride.

One thing I've learned from this ride is to not adjust NOTHING at 3.6 (that's when my ride started grrrr) and test again next week.

Hopefully your doctor won't pull the panic button at 3.6 - like mine.
So, the next time your carving a salad, add some - or a lot of spinach with it ;)

Well i dreamt somewhere the more activity the higher your inr and youd have to come down in mg with increase of exercise your body was getting cus inr goes up okay im wrong but where did this thought come from LOL

Deb, have you been talking to my doctor?? She believes the same thing.

You say that your activity level has increased, but chopping on another bag of ice chips doesn't count ;)

Hey Zip,
3.6 is great!!! I would not worry about it at all & just keep on doing what you're doing & check it in a week or whenever you check as usual.

My dose is not much higher than yours (55mg/wk) & I've been running a bit high for the last 3 wks or so. Averaging between 4.2 - 4.6 but I don't panic. I just tweak my dose a little, cut it in 1/2 the day I check it & then 7.5 the following day & then back to 10mg daily & check in a week. And I have also been more active than usual. I checked it this past Monday & it was 3.1. Yay!!

After 34 years of doing this my friend, it doesn't faze me in the least but I thank God that I have a home monitor, for sure!!

You are quite normal!!!! :)

I agree with the previous posters - stay on the dosage & see what happens. Just another thought... you could test 3.6 and retest 5 minutes later and have it show 4.0 or 3.0. If it looks like it's creeping up you may want to tweak it a bit - but certainly wait til your next scheduled test.

Exercise will decrease your INR because it increases your metabolism.

I have never been able to "tie" my INR "ups and downs" to any hard and fast reasons, except for a few occasions when the reason was fairly obvious. I am sure there are clinical or drug chemistry reasons for these swings, but I also think they are the work of the "gnomes and leprechauns":p. I just take my warfarin every day, test regularly and adjust when I see a trend emerging, which fortunately, is very seldom.

Thanks everyone Bina ,Norma,Chris along with others added confidence
and yep im just staying same dose no change and my doc today said im doing as expected with work etc and as far as my inrs his comment was you've had that warfarin body 18 years and you know what to do better than me,stick to vr.....real good percription he gave me:):) so i'm pleased and happy;)

Give that man some fudge.
Maybe he could write an article in that medical journal all the doctors get and talk about vr and home monitors. It may be just what this Province needs.

Write a letter to the editor of the journal with many signatures supporting our views. If OHIP agrees to cover the cost of POC monitoring then other provinces would have to to pay attention. With the current economic situation though I'm not holding my breath.
Cheers

ain't it refreshing to get a doc who does not panic and who gives your credit for understanding "your own INR". Like you, at long last, I finally found a PCP who said what your doc says...."you know what to do better than me". I guess that "our" guys dind't sleep thru that medical school lecture:p. Hang on to that one, 'cause they are "few and far between":D.
