I have a computer question that I'm hoping someone can answer for me. I just helped to set up my Mom's new laptop comupter, and when I go to my cable internet's website (Comcast.net) to check my e-mail remotely none of their "buttons" on the left side show up...the main one being the one I need to click on to check my e-mail (as well as the sign out button). I have tried adjusting the firewall and virus software (including turning it off) and still nothing. I have run into this problem before, and for the life of me I can't remember what I did to correct the problem. When I pull up the website, internet explorer has the "Done, but with errors" triangle at the bottom left side of the status bar.

Does anyone know of any settings I may be able to change to IE (or anything else) that will allow me to see the web link buttons on a website if they are not showing up?

Thanks!

Bryan,
Your question intrigued me so I did a google search and found this in a forum - hope it helps.

"The messages you are seeing are most often caused by errors within scripts on the web page you are viewing. There are other possible causes, so check your security settings (Tools, Internet Options, Security, then Custom Level), and be sure that you don't have any scripting disabled.

Also, have you installed firewall or anti-virus programs such as ZoneAlarm, BlackICE, Norton AV, after you installed or updated IE?

You may want to upgrade IE to 6.0."

Dick and Bob,

Thanks for the suggestions. All my settings in security looked ok and the resolution is set at 1280x800 (brand new Toshiba notebook). I did find a good ole "work around" though. :D I found a help forum for Comcast and apparently there are plenty of bugs in the webmail. Someone had posted a "back door" link that takes you directly to the webmail sign in and this worked for me. I noticed that the border on Ross's "heavily medicated" gif is not moving, so I think there is some setting on the firewall or virus software that that has disabled javascript somewhere. I do see the weather signs and Mary's dog avatar moving so I'm not sure what's going on. I'm heading back to Nashville in a week (I miss my computer which is set up "just right"). I really like this Toshiba though...it has a 15.4" widescreen and more power than my desktop. Thanks again for the help! :)

Not quite sure what the problem is but are you blocking cookies, some web sites espically web mail have cookies they check and load in first. Something similar happened to me when I attemped to check my e-mail online when I was on a cruise, they had all cookies blocked so I couldn't get into my web e-mail.

I suspect there is some internet option you need to turn on, but heaven knows what one it is.

Joan
