Hi,
My dad has had bypass surgery twice. Once in 1990 and another in Dec. of 2001. On the second surgery, he also had a valve replacement. He is 70 years old. His Echocardiogram was great in Jan 2002, but he recently had another Echo, and it showed an enlarged heart. We are thinking it has something to do with the valve. Does anyone have any information on this? Do you think they would do another surgery for another valve? Is this even possible? He will have an angiogram on Wed to see the real problem, but we are just nervous wrecks, wanting more info.

Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks so much!

Hi and welcome to the site. It's just the greatest place. You'll get lots of answers to your questions, I'm sure.

You didn't mention what the reason for the valve replacement was and what kind of valve he has and also which valve is involved.

The enlarged heart can be from lots of different scenarios. Here's what the American Heart Assoc. says about it.

I'm sure after his next test, you'll have a lot more info. I hope it's something that can be taken care of with medicines.

Please let us know what the test shows. We'll be here for you and for him also.

Good luck.
