Well, if it's possible I enjoyed my pre-op today. I feel less nervous now than I did yesterday. Duke has a really neat system for their pre-op. The first thing you do is report to radiology for chest x-rays. Then you go on a quick tour of the "heart floor" where you will report for surgery, and the OR, ICU, and private room step down units are all located. Then they took me to a private room on the 7th floor. There they drew blood, weighed me, did an ekg, and I talked to the surgeon, his PA, and someone from anesthesia. The whole process took 3hrs. I have to srub myself with these antibacterial brushes tonight and again tomorrow morning before reporting the the 3rd floor at 6:30 and the surgery starts at 8AM (my surgery got pushed back an hour because they have a weekly meeting on Wednesday mornings and start everything an hour later than the rest of the week. I don't have to shave myself tonight (neener neener Bill). They said they will start the IV and give me the happy juice fairly soon after I arrive and I won't care what they do to me after that. They will be doing the Ross Procedure if my pulmonary valve is in good shape. If not plan B is the C-E pericardial bovine valve. Well I gotta run, I'm having pizza for my last pre-op dinner and a big bowl of Bryer's ice cream before midnite. Thanks to everyone who's helped me stay sane throughout the waiting process, and expect to hear from my sister on the post-op forum sometime tomorrow evening.
See ya'll on the other side of the mountain!
