Every once in awhile my 19-year-old, Alexia, who is on coumadin, will have a suspicious "bruise" on a part of her body. Then when I remember to check it again a couple hours later it is gone. What is it? if it was indeed a bruise, wouldn't it linger for a few days?

Thank you to all, you are a wealth of infomation!

my brother takes coumadin, is unsteady so he bumps himself from time to time - but the bruise stays around until it fades. It can take days or a week to go away. I haven't heard of any having a bruise that disappears in a couple of hours. But they will be along before the day is out to give you other opinions and thoughts.

bruising--coumadin

bruising--coumadin

Good afternoon,

I have been warfarinized for the past six years and although, at times, I have substantial bruising I've never known one to disappear in a few hours.

If is sit with my legs crossed too long, I bruise behind the knee. My body is bruised somewhere all the time and I don't associate a knock or a blow to have caused them. Presently I have a 2" x 2" bruise on my forearm caused by who knows what.

They spontaneously appear but never spontaneously disappear. May be your daughter had the bruise a long time before you noticed it although mine usually turn yellow before they disappear. They're just part of the warfarin experience.

I have occasionally seen what I call "pressure bruising" when I get up in the morning. It's usually because I have slept on my hand. These "bruises" are usually lighter and more reddish than the typical purple-blue bruise. They always fade within a few hours or certainly by the next day.

Could this be similar to Alexia's bruising?
