My brother in law and former best friend was having chest pains and shortness of breath this morning. They rushed him to the ER by ambulance. They did a Cardiac Cath which did not show any blockage....He is in? or having? Atrial Fibrilation. He's not had any heart problems but he is an alcoholic.....Pretty sad, he and I are just a few months apart in age. We were like brothers when we were little up until his drinking became a real problem about 10 years ago. They started him on Heparin while I was there....they were talking about either shocking him or drug treatment?

That is really sad news, i sure hope he is going to be ok. I wish him all the best and maybe you could salvage your friendship, make something good out of a bad situation, take care

Alcoholics develop problems - few of them get old. He may be just beginning his journey. He has my prayers; that's about all we can do til he decides he wants to help himself. It is his decision. Rehab can help, but he has to have the want-to. Sorry you lost your best friend; I know you still care very much about him and he's still close to you or you wouldn't write. Sometimes we have to just put the distance there and watch from afar just in case we are needed to jump in if there's something we can do. Blessins......

Johnny,
I'm sorry to hear this news.
My husband was on hand for two cardioversions yesterday. He came home shaking his head at one patient; the lady was in a-fib but hadn't taken her coumadin for six days. They had to run a TEE to make sure there were no clots before they could convert her, but it turned out ok and the second one too.
Perhaps this glimpse at his own mortality will provide your brother in law with the necessary motivation to take action to rid himself of his drinking addiction.
