one of our friends visited us a couple weeks ago and little did we know he had bronchitis. when i found out i started taking 500mg vit C daily but my wife didnt.
she caught it and and though i take measures to avoid catching it (wearing a mask and keeping the vitamin C regimen) i am showing slight symptoms of getting it - sneezing and a very faint sorethroat.

how bad is bronchitis?
i have heard a lot abt bacterial endocarditis. can one get it from being exposed to a bacterial cold such as pneumonia or bronchitis?

Well I've got it right now. It stinks! If you feel your catching it and perhaps start running a fever, get to the Doc's and get some antibiotics pronto. You'll probably be just fine, but why risk it. Too much at stake with us people.

If possible and you have insurance coverage for it, ask for Avelox. Usually 3 to 5 oral doses knock it out. It' very expensive, but it does the job.

Tho I didn't have valve replacement, I did have quad bypass and lungs are not great (former long time smoker). I had other surgery 5/20, got pneumonia the day after surgery and was on antibiotics for 4 wks total. Last weekend my daughter came to visit, said she was 'coming down' and had a cough. Well, wouldn't you know that Thursday I had a slight cough and within hours couldn't even talk, called my dr, got 20 days' worth of Cipro. If you think you are getting bronchitis, GET AN ANTIBIOTIC, like Ross says. It is no fun and saps your strength really badly........

These kinds of things are so fearful for people who have had serious heart and/or lung problems. I've become very blunt in asking anyone who is coming to visit whether they are ill. It sounds paranoid, but with the things Joe has been through, we just can't take any chances. He takes his temperature every morning.

It is a real challenge when you have young childern. I have to hold back on my volenteer work at school during the heavy cold/flu season. There is always a function or two during the holidays that we just can't miss and usually end up sick.

We have been using Zicam at the very first onset of a cold. It works 9 out of 10 times. I did not need an antibiotic last winter for anything! If it doesn't work, then we are certain it is bacterial in nature.

Everyone should have the flu shot too!
