Amiodarone stays in your body forever from what i read here
(WOW) thats scarey in a way, concidering i was on it long enough.

Everytime i see my cardio he requestions me about the drug and that
i stopped it and not still on it. I always wonder if it did contribute to
my rhythum straighting out or credit the maze they did,or combination
of maze @ amiodarone:confused:
Nonetheless i was very sick while on the amiodarone and good while
after discontinuing the drug
I can totally understand why the conflict of the Brits
I know anything ending in (rone) for these drugs makes my tummy
feel like im gonna throw up again forever like i did while on amiodarone.:eek

Not sure if this is a good thing or not. But there lies the problem with the NHS, some expensive drugs are likely to not get ok'd as the NHS is central government funded, and the money men like to keep hold of the purse strings. Having said that I think the NHS is fantastic and I wouldn't change it.

It's the same story everywhere. Money is more important then anything, even health.

from all the reports we get, amiodarone is excellent in helping with rhythm; it's just that it is a dangerous drug and there are many others to use instead. Blessins..........

I think as American's, unless you have lived in Europe, we can not begin to understand how vast the differences are in our healthcare systems. It seemed to me that money definitely drove almost every medical decision that was made regarding any medical care we had while we lived in the UK. (Let me say here, I realize the US is money driven too, but in a totally different way). Our son, who was born there, had horrible, persistent ear infections. My GP there would only prescribe 5 days worth of amoxicillin every time. Obviously, that was not enough to ever clear up his ears. When he was about 7 months old, we came back to the states for a visit. I took him to our pediatrician here, who quickly put him on a great antibiotic (can't remember the name now) for a two week course. It cleared his ears right up and gave him about a 3 month period where he was free of infection, which was the longest it had ever been. When he got his next infection, I asked my GP there for that drug specifically. He told me he couldn't give it to me because it was too expensive and if he did that, X number of children wouldn't be able to get some med that they might need. Instead, he offered me 5 days of amoxicillian! I was flabergasted! So, I called me Dr. in the states, and he actually went to the drug store for me, got a prescription for a stronger antibiotic, and had it sent to me. Eventually, after almost a year, we got to see a ENT Dr. privately there, who put my son on a 6 months course of low dose antibiotics b/c his ear problems were so severe.

To this day, my 13 year old son's ear drums are badly scared from repeated, severe ear infections that were not properly treated due to money.

am with ross and acr over this one, look wherever you are in the world you will get good and bad health care fact, its very easy to have a pop at any given health service around the world, and in kfay story rightly so,but in general i believe that the care we get is good, maybe im lucky but i cant praise the care highly enough i have received,we are so lucky in this day that we can have these ops,yes theres alway gonna be the odd bad story but all in all most cardio and surgeons are great,

Kfay, I think you said in another thread that you had medical insurance while you lived in the UK, so could you not have gone private earlier with your son's ear problems?

I agree with everyone else, Neil, Ross, Acr - there's good and bad in every health system. We don't want to start another Healthcare Reform thread.....but NO system is perfect.
