Hi there

It has been some time since I last wrote on this site, I do look over it from time to time though.

I had my surgery March 2001, the AV i now have leaks at a moderate level.

Over the last few weeks/months I have started to notice getting breahless in certain circumstnaces and also some chest pain. This happens especilaly when I play golf and am carrying my bag and going up a slope/hill etc. I have never had a problem with this before and am not sure what the best thing to do is, I dont want to waste my doctors time but also is a bit worrying given my history. I wonder though whether this history makes you more aware of pains etc and in reality it is only what everyone feels carrying a golf bag etc!

Any advice would be appreciated

Richard the best advice is to consult your physician. It sounds as if things are getting worse more so then they appear. Do contact him/her ASAP.

Richard,
Why would you consider it a waste of your doctor's time to ask him/her about your pain? It would certainly ease your mind, I believe, to hear what he/she has to say. Perhaps a visit to the dr's office would be a good thing. Believe me, after what I've gone through w/my surgery, no situation is so minor that a phone call or a visit is not worthwhile. I believe that you should pick up the phone and call........what do you have to lose?

Waste you Dr's time? He/she'd likely be very upset

that you had these symptoms for very long without consulting a medical professional.

Make an appointment immediately.

Get thee to the cardiologist. Make an appt. today. Sounds as if things are worsening. Maybe there's some meds that can make you more comfy in the mean time. It could even be a little CHF in your lungs. Duiretics will help that, but your doc is your new best friend now.

Let us know how things are going.

OK message received, I have made an appointment for week tomorrow, will advise if any news. Thanks for the advice.

They cant see you any sooner? Did you tell them the problems youre having? I would call them back and explain exactly whats going on. If the valve is leakaing again that can cause shortness of breath or it could be the onset of CHF. Please call them again and make them see you sooner or go to the emergency room! Let us know what happens. Concerened

this is problem with UK health system, the guy i see only works in private hospital once a week and next Tuesday is next time as he was booked up today. Short of going to ER not much choice.

Hey, Richard - haven't seen you for awhile. Sorry to hear that you are having problems and I can understand your reluctance to have it checked. My thoughts on the subject are wrong, too and they are 'if I go to dr, the dr might find something wrong and then I am in trouble and I have already been there and done that and don't want to go there again'. But, I guess all the others are right - you SHOULD go have it checked. If if becomes a true emergency, I think yu will know and get to ER pronto. My prayers are with you - please keep us informed. God bless

You are very right in what you say, if I go they want to do something and there is no way I want to go through that again so soon so I figure ignore it and it might go away! perhaps not the best way of looking at things but natural I guess. Anyway appointment made now so we will see what they say.

I know you made you appt. Richard and that's good. If you didn't go, and it was something treatable, and there were bad consequences, you'd be kicking yourself for not going.

So it's always better to go and let the experts assess the situation.

Good luck

Richard,
Everything that needed saying has already been said, but I did want to wish you luck. I hope that whatever the problem is turns out to be easily corrected.

Do let us know how it turns out!

Best wishes,
John

Wishing you the best with your consult...Having had my valve replaced because of leaking and now this one too is letting go, you were wise to post and get all VR memebers' input to "get you going" to your doctor. I've been told to "wait until I present with problems" (i.e. shortness of breath) before they consider a third surgery. Keep us posted... my ( our) thoughts are with you.
