Does anyone know of a quality forum such as Valve Replacement.com for breast cancer? I haven't been able to find one and have been recently diagnosed and had limited surgery this week. For future reference I would like to know of such a forum. (I am the wife of the heart patient, by the way).

Hi Celia,

Welcome, and I'm so sorry to hear of your recent diagnosis. I asked that same question a few months ago as my sis was going through her battle with BC. Sadly she passed away in April, and I never did find one, but I'm sure there is one somewhere. I've found similar forums for hysterectomy, Curves for Women, and other things... so I know they're out there. I'll keep looking, and let you know if I find one.

I'll keep you in my prayers too.. you CAN beat this thing, I know you can.

I have written to one of VR's original members to ask. If anyone knows, she does. She may come in here or she may write me and I will put it in.

I found a site for kidney cancer several months ago when it was suspected I had that and it was a good one, so there surely has to be one for breast cancer, I think, because it's far more prevalent.

I am so sorry. I have you in my prayers.

Hi Celia...

Hi Celia...

Just wanted to share with you that my younger sister had breast cancer in 1979 when she was only 43 years old. Well, she's 57 now and still going strong!

As Nancy said --- WebMD is a good reference.

I'll say the same prayers for you that I said for my sister.. :)

Hi Celia, Also just wanted to let you know this is very beatable. I was diagnosed with bc in 92 and 93...have been clean ever since. You will make it!

Sorry I don't know of a site. It sure would have been a help back then.

God bless.

Thanks for the sites some of you mentioned.

I'm very optimistic. This was located by mammogram--it would've been years before a lump was felt. At least that was what I was originally told. Then they did further study and told me it was "high grade". I underwent a lumpectomy Wednesday and will have 6 weeks of radiation that should take care of it permanently.

Again, thanks for the sites. There surely isn't one as good as this one though!

Hi Celia,
I'm the member that Hensley was talking about I think... at least she did email me to ask me about this.

There are several at WebMD, along with chat rooms on certain nights.

Another good site can be found at www.cancer.org. This is the American Cancer Society site and there is a community bulletin board where you can post.

I had a mastectomy in May 01. It was a small mass, only 2 cm., but my heart surgery the previous October 00 and then a diagnosis of Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia in January, 01 made the cure a little tougher for me. But I am happy to say that I am now cancer free and had breast reconstruction last year.

If you call the American Cancer Society, they have many programs for women with breast cancer. I volunteer for Reach to Recovery, a program that puts survivors and those newly diagnosed in contact. They also have a wonderful program, Look Good, Feel Better, that brings women going through radiation/chemo together for a day of beauty tips and they also offer free wigs to women who have lost their hair.

You can contact them in person for an office near you at 1-800-ACS-2345.

Hope this helps.

Take care,
Zazzy

P.S. We are always looking for volunteers... though you have to be a year out of treatment to do Reach to Recovery. :)

Hi Celia,

I'm sorry that you have a battle before you... but know many survivors of the same war. I have a cousin who was diagnosed and had a mastectomy over 30 years ago. I can't say that her life hasn't, at times, been profoundly affected by the disease, but her life has been full and rich. Now she is enjoying the blessings brought by grandchildren.

I hope your radiation zaps this from your life forever!

Been there, done that

Been there, done that

I had breast cancer in 1990 - lumpectomy, radiation and chemo. Not fun, but a very successful outcome. Please feel free to pm me or send me an e-mail (if you send an email please mention vr.com in subject, as I hardly open any emails where I don't recognize the sender.

You have a tough row to hoe - but we just kinda do what we have to do. I've said before that I'd have another ohs in a heartbeat rather than go through the breast cancer thing again. So I know how you feel.

I don't know of a support group online - I had it before I had internet.

Please let me know if I can help. You're not alone out there.
