The Atlanta Braves just clinched their 13th straight division title! :D :D :D

Oh yeah...by the way did I mention I'm a huge Braves fan?

*shakes head*

Now I understand why we didn't meet in June, Bryan....

*grins*

Just kidding, of course!

Congratulations to you and your team...from this Cubs fan ;) !

He he he....

It IS that time of year again, isn't it? Hmmm...last year...vr.com reunion IN Chicago...and let's see, which Chicago team was in the midst of the playoffs then?

Man...if the Cubs actually make it into the playoffs as the Wild Card team this year (does not look good right now), it will be very hard taking my 2-week road trip....

Cort,

I'm a closet Cubbies fan too. Since we didn't have a pro team in NC I followed the Braves and the Cubs when we first got cable back in the 80's. The Cubs blew it big time today though, had a 3-0 lead in the 9th and gave up a 3 run homer with 2 outs and 2 strikes on the batter (and the 2 base runners were on via walks...ouch). Then they lost it in the 11th.

Hey!

I'm pulling for the Cardinals! Anyone want to make a wager?
Mary

*holds gaping mouth*

Mary...Mary...Mary....

I'm not sure which is the lesser of 2 evils...the Cardinals or the White Sox. Or, perhaps it is Chevrolet and/or the Tribune Co...but that's another story entirely ;). LOL!

Aye...Mary, I expect the Cardinals to take it all this year....

*turns to Bryan*

Ah, well...I have one more person on my side :). I know Lorraine is a die-hard Cubs fan, too :).

*shakes head*

I couldn't believe Saturday's game. Aye. And then today's game was even worse...well, not worse, just as bad though. Here's hoping the favorite team of one of my uncles and one of my cousins can beat the SF Giants tonight...we need that assist from their Dodgers....

Cort,
Hold on! I have a bigger shock for you!!

Can you handle it?????????

All of my dad's family lived in south Chicago. When I visited them, the only no-no was to be a Cubs fan! They adored the White Sox.

Cort, are you still breathing????

Yes, I always rooted for the White Sox and the Cardinals.
I'm now a Cubs fan, but CARDINALS RULE!

:)

Yes, I'm still breathing...he he he.

I'm not surprised...White Sox and Cardinals fans. A few people I know in this area that used to live in the greater Pittsburgh area are White Sox and Pirates fans. Just is par for the course, I suspect.

But, um, you are now a Cubs fan but Cardinals rule?

*eyes Mary very suspiciously*

Looks like you've got some splainin' to do ;).

*turns to Cort shaking head*

My condolences buddy. All of your hopes now rest on somehow sweeping the Braves and getting some help from the Astros and Giants. It doesn't look good for your Cubbies...and I think the Braves would rather not play the Cubs in the playoffs, so I don't think they will lay down this weekend. It ain't over till the fat lady sings...but I believe I hear her warming up in the background. :(

Warming up?

*chuckles*

She's been singing in the hallways of Wrigley Field since Tuesday's 8-3 loss to the Reds.

*sighs*

Oh well. I must admit I haven't been the happiest guy of late this week. But, that's a combo of a bunch of things, part of which is the Cubs' sudden loss of knowing how to win. Then again, I blame that on an owner (Tribune Co) who keeps telling people they want a winning team on the N side of Chicago...and never producing one, and I blame it on Dusty advertising for Chevrolet. Tsk tsk tsk.

*shrugs*

I can just hear Gram telling me something to the effect:

'Now, Cort, this isn't the end of the world. It's just a game. I love watching the games win or lose. Besides, we've had a good year this year, despite tons of injuries and other stuff.'

*pauses*

Yep, that'd be just about exactly what she'd say. And, she'd be right, of course.

But, that don't take the sting away...or make it hurt any less.

Oh well.

On the bright side, I can embark on my 2-week road trip in mid-October and not care about not being able to watch or hear any of the playoff games.

With that said...Go Twins and Dodgers!

Glad I had more important things to do and skipped the game :p Gave our tickets away. Can't win them all. To have a season like last year only comes along every 20 years or so. :D On the upswing...maybe the Bears will do us proud this season
