Nine weeks post surgery, AV replacement and double bypass. I entered cardiac rehab (maybe a little too early) just 5 weeks post op and all went fine for first 3 sessions, then my blood pressure at 15 minutes exercise spiked to 200/120, had to go to ER to get it down. Since then, cardiologist has resume my metopropol, first 50 mg per day, now 100 mg per day, and also placed me on Lisinopril 10 mg per day 5 days ago. I have suspended cardiac rehab since every time I attempt to resume it, my BP spikes again. BP now running about 150/90, still a little high, with periods of higher and occasional some lower readings. I understand it takes a few weeks on the meds before BP returns to normal and wondering if others on the forum have experienced the same following surgery?

My wife believes I am obsessed with the BP and the cardiologist's assistant echoes this, says I should not take a reading except early morning (when it is always high) and just before bedtime. That's hard to do since I'm concerned with the potential damage from consistently high BP, but maybe I really am just obsessed.

Any comments, reassurances, or whatever??

unless there is a really good reason, you probly shouldn't take it more than once or twice a day. you will only upset yourself with the different readings throughout the day. I have done that but finally decided on a different schedule. sometimes morming, sometimes 10 a.m., or noon, or afternoon, or evening. Your dr is right that bp is highest in the morning and a large percentage of strokes occur in the morning. My dear Joe had his about 7 in the a.m. not long after he got up from the night.

your bp is a little high and the meds you are taking should help it calm down. you might just need to give it some time. try not to worry or stress as that's not good for your bp. blessins.....
