I just happened to be at the Aquarium in Boston the other day and I ran into Stan. He is the very funny kind of manager/research guy who works on Ellison 8 on Weekends. He told me that a woman who was a heart patient at Mass General (heart attack) wrote a book called "Arrow Through the Heart" based on her experience as a heart patient at Mass General. Her name is Deborah Daw Heffernan. Just wondering if anyone has read it

*Hi there, I havent heard of that book, but the title made me immediately think of how I feel with heart problems.....''flattened by a steam roller'' came into my mind within seconds.

Thanks for what looks to be an interesting book on heart disease and women, told by one woman. This book was published in 2001 or 2002, so those of us who want to read it can get a price break on the cost by checking used bookstores or thrift stores. Our library in Tempe has several copies too.

For those who want a bit more info, check this link:

Many thanks, Cherbam,

Thanks for the info.

I'd really like to read it.

I was treated post heart attack in MGH, days in CCU awaiting bypass surgery and recovery there on Ellison 8. Chances are good I will have my mitral valve surgery at MGH and recover on Ellison 8.

I hope I can buy it on line.

Thanks for the tip. I just bought it at Amazon! I will be having surgeon Gus Vlahakas at MGH do my AVR probably sometime this year. Barbara

Dear Barbara:

Just a note.......my husband has had Dr. Vlahakes do two heart surgeries.

The first was a dual aortic and mitral valve replacement, five years ago. The second was in February of this year.....tricuspid annuloplasty. He had some complications, and I can tell you that this Dr. came back to the hospital to meet us at almost eleven o'clock one night, and did blood draws, etc., himself, to speed things along, he was so worried. This man truly takes care of each and every one of his patients, and is incredibly smart....but down to earth. Best wishes, and when you see him tell him the Bergeron's from Longmeadow say Hello!
