Hi everyone: I had my valve operation back in Nov. 2016. I went back to work in March 2017. I have been noticing that when I lay down or get up sometimes, I can hear my chest bones clicking a bit. Is this normal? I thought I would be heald by now. Should I not hear any clicking eventually. I am just worried that my chest would come apart. What should I do? This has got me worried. My job is very physical, climbing ladders and telephone poles etc. Opinions please!

Apparantly it is, as your sternum is several bones not one solid one theres normal flexing movement there. I guess you had the usual chest xray follow ups after surgery and was told it looks fine ? Then it is considered healed. My sternum produces a knocking/clicking noise when I walk, it has to be minimal backround noise to hear it but it has gotten louder over the last 6 months, no amount of squeezing or pushing on my ribs alters it so I guess its just a bit of cartilidge or a wee man with a hammer

I understand your concerns as I climb up and down ladders on harvesters every day, I haven't had any adverse effects, still a bit of muscle soreness across the chest.

I'm going on 8 years since my second OHS. I still get the occasional sternum crack.

Yes, this is normal. I had my OHS in 2010 and my doctors always comment on how they can hear my sternum clicking. I personally don't hear it but my doctor assured me it's normal and there's nothing dangerous about it.
