Prior to my surgery, 3+ months ago, my blood pressure was in the 100/65 range pretty consistently. Now it seems my pressure is in the 130/75 range pretty consistently. While those new numbers aren't bad, I was happier having lower pressure readings. Has anyone else noticed this after their AVR ? Is this maybe temporary ?

Prior to my husband's AVR surgery, his blood pressure was 130/50. After surgery, his blood pressure is in the 110/75~120/80 range. He had severe Aorta regurgitation before. I don't know if this change is temporary or not.

I am about one month post surgery and my blood pressure has been up and down in the first few weeks. I am heading into week 5 and it has become much more consistent. I was told that the medication I am on, metropolol, eases the workload for the heart and thus will lower BP. This has been true for me. I'd check w/ your cardiologist.

Best of luck! Hope all goes well too.

Prior to surgery, my BP was borderline high so I was prescribed Benicar. Post surgery (now at 8 weeks) Metropolol was added to the menu. About a week after release from the hospital my BP dropped really low so the Benicar was taken off the plate. BP now is OK but there are still some significant swings, nothing out of range though.

You should check with your cardio.
For me, 130/75 would be too high and I would worry about the strain on my heart while it remodels.
A low dose of Metoprolol would keep your BP in a lower range while you recover.

thats the thing....Im already on 100mg of Metroprolol. I find it odd that my BP is higher after surgery even with the BP meds.
