Anyone heard of this Bleed-X product that claims to stop topical wound bleeding? Thought it may be good just in case I slip with the scissors.

How many times have you or a loved one been cut and you haven't been able to stop the bleeding? Tired of the stinging from stiptic sticks? Unexpected nose bleeds that won't stop? Bleed-X is a significant new development that has recently been introduced to the medical/surgical market, which is now available directly to the consumer without a prescription through CORAD Healthcare in an OTC applicator.

Bleed-X is a recently FDA cleared natural topical hemostat which is used by Emergency Room Physicians and EMT's (Emergency Medicine Technicians) to stop moderate to severe bleeding.

Bleed-X provides safe, effective control of problem bleeding from minor to major wounds. This product is truly a lifesaver. Bleed-X is a patented technology manufactured under US patent 6,060,461 and is completely safe to use, as it is manufactured from natural starches.

The 0.5 gram applicator provides up to 4 square inches of wound coverage, enough for a 4" x 1/4" inch incision x 1mm deep.

Bleed-X is perfect for the following cuts, lacerations and bleeding from:

Razor cuts
Nose bleeds
Children with cuts and lacerations
Cut feet from glass
Cut skin from auto accidents
Cumadin patients and patients on other blood thinners
Cut arteries (yes, cut arteries!)
Fishing accidents
Hunting accidents
Bicycling accidents
Car accidents
$5.95 Each +S&H

I know some of you may be reading this and perhaps are thinking, is this product really available and does it work? Yes, it really does work and here's how:

*MPH (Microporous Polysaccharide Hemispheres) technology platform utilizes a bio-inert polymer material consisting of flowable microporous particles synthesized to a controlled porosity and spherical diameter, from raw materials derived from plants -- not animals or human pooled-blood sources. When applied to actively bleeding areas, MPH acts as a molecular sieve (or absorbent) that rapidly absorbs the fluid component of blood. The controlled porosity of the particle excludes platelets, red blood cells and serum proteins, which are then concentrated on the surface of the particles.

Sounds interesting to me. I'd like to hear if anyone has tried it... I noticed it did say it was reccommended for "coumadin patients and patients on other blood thinners," so maybe it is safe??? But I'm always a little hesitant until I hear of someone who has tried something... Thanks for sharing!

EMT's have something similar on hand. Has a clotting agent in it. If you check your local pharmacy...I believe Curad has one.

Jim, are you joining us in Rosemont for the reunion in a few weeks? Hope you can make it.

If you so decide, please enter your intentions under the reunion main dinner thread.

When I was last in the pharmacy, there was a product to stop bleeding. It said that it stayed on the surface of the skin and immediately formed a small clot to stop the bleeding. It wasn't a styptic product, but something else. It was in the First Aid section. Next time I'm in there, I'll take a look.

I did get Joe some liquid styptic because he gets small little skin things from the cats jumping on him, or whatever, and they can leave little blood spots around.

Blood is SO HARD to get out of fabric, unless you can bleach it. I've tried everything, peroxide works the best, but I have to apply it several times, and it still leaves a spot. Those stain-spotters don't work at all.

My wife threatened to lock me in the shed outside because of all the blood on my pillowcase. I think she agrees with you Nancy. :D

One of my patients buys peroxide by the case whenever it is on sale. A pint is less than $1.00 and she throws the whole pint in with the pillowcases in the washer. She says that it works great.

I think Lyn is ready to just stuff my sorry tail into a bottle of peroxide and put me in the cabinet for eternity.

Who would have thought that the movie predator could produce two governors!!

They are widely quoted in anticoagulation circles too.

Jesse Ventura (Blaine) when told that he has been hit and is bleeding says, "I ain't got time to bleed."

AND

Arnold Schwartzenegger (Dutch), when devising a strategy to kill the predator says, "If it bleeds ve can kill it."

Love that movie...

Love that movie...

who would have thought???

I've used peroxide directly on the blood stain, next time in goes in the washer, sound much easier.
