Did anyone see this special on the History channel last night? What this all came down to was if the words of the bible/torah (primarily the first 5 books) are set flat with no spaces betweens word and sentences into a grid of letters (like a "find the word" puzzle) words can be found that reference events, past to us, but long after the book was written. This program was interesting. You can group any number of letters and find references to almost anything, but the way it was shown, there were multible and specific words/phrases to events that happened 2000 years after it was written. If you have the bug, do a search on "Bible Code". Let me know what you think about this. Will

Ross,

I think the schedule actually had it last night at midnight not tonight. I looked at the schedule comparing to my Dish Network schedule and UFO files is actually on at midnight.

Their website is confusing. What they are showing at Midnight on Tuesday is actually tonight. Bummer - I really wanted to watch it. I guess I'll have to buy the video.

The parts of the Bible that really bother me are not the parts I can't understand, or any supposed secret codes, but rather the parts that I can't possibly misunderstand because they are so very clear. Someone once said that a whole lot better than I just did.

I know Jim, but I always love to see what someone thinks they've found and explaining why they think so. Wasn't that someone a carpenter?

After thinking about this last night and not finding anything easy to read on the net, I went to one of my handy books, The Idiot's Guide to Biblical Mysteries. There's a whole chapter on the phenomenon. It's called "equidisant letter sequences" or ELS and it all comes down to reading messages by finding letters that are spaced an equal distance from each other. ELS surfaced in 1958 and started getting some attention by the scientific community in 1988. In 1994 an article was published in a big journal followed by a book, in 1997, called The Bible Code which caught the public's eye. It seems that the code is an illusion though (at least that's what the Idiot's Guide comes to) because all sorts of messages can be found in any book if you work a code long enough. The History Channel program did address this fact and I can't remember what the conclusion was, I'll have to watch it again. Will

I do agree that the bible codes thing is interesting. I also agree with JimL. If I can handle what I do understand, then I'll be doing really good. That's the rub sometimes, living out what you already know. I have seen some of the codes info discussed by Carl Baugh, a christian scientist, and it was rather interesting seeing current people and events spelled out in scripture.

Didn't someone also have a theory about 1000 monkeys using 1000 typewriters....?!
