Ok, all, I came to the source of all knowledge for the answer to this one.

Do bee stings or multiple stings affect the INR? I don't think they would, but since we know Rain's dog digging in the garden can affect it, what about bee stings?

Reason for asking, Tyce just got stung about 3 times by wasps while he was weedwhacking......another day in paradise.

Thanks for the info/opinions in advance.

Hmmmmm.

Hmmmmm.

Evelyn -- I don't know, but I feel Tyce's pain as I'm allergic to all the stingers.

I was just out front trimming back the blooming sage as the bees were swarming. Decided that project could wait.

Maybe Al will chime in here soon..

Hi Evelyn, I think we talked about this last year some time but it won't come up when I do a search. I don't remember if anyone knew for sure.

I hope Tyce is alright. Let us know what happens with his INR, OK?

Are you going to make it to Colorado?

Not certain EV. Hope he's doing ok.

I love to garden myself. It's a wonder I have not been stung. Yesterday I got stuck with a thorn on a rose bush. Had heavy gloves and it still penetrated. The thorn stayed in the glove..put still gave me a good prick. It stung like $ell. In less than a half hour I had a nice bruise. My INR was only 2.7 at the time too! Give it 48 hours and test his INR to be safe.

Steve has been stung on quite a few occassions by wasps, and it has had no noticable affect on his inr. His swelling and healing were probably better than if I or my boys get stung. Maybe it could help?!

Thanks all....Tyce seems fine. He usually has no reaction to bee stings, but I worry about 4 at one time. Of course I got one sting and my entire face blew up---stung on the temple on Friday and I'm still swollen, even with benadryl.....He seems fine, but I'll let you all know if his INR is affected next week when we test.

Nope, Betty, we're not going to Colorado. Have a busy fall planned with the motor home and are going to a rally in Delaware that week. For us to take the MH to Colorado would take about a week to two there and back again. The rally is only 7 hours away. Maybe if it's closer next year.

I used to get stung many times by wasps when we lived on our farm. Those stinkers build in the least place you would think of..mainly over doors in barns, ect...Once, he hit me on my forehead..within an hour..my whole face was swollen, eyes, ect. and it hurt.. but funny, living here on the Mountain top..not many places for them..Only around birdbath in summer and I stay clear..Some good remedies..Clorox, , meat tenderizer, Colgate toothpaste and tobacco, wet.. Grab a cigerette from someone..lol..I remeber getting stung on a finger and it felt like a needle in it for several days..and foot, so swollen for many days...I also heard, take a credit card and rub where they bite you..Gets the stinger out...Bonnie

I couldn't find any double-blind, placebo-controlled studies. Too hard to make a placebo bee, I guess LOL.

You mean to tell me there isn't any Federal Grant/Study funds available for to create one ? :D Wonder what Matt Lesko has to say about it?

Hi All

Well, to fill everyone in on the bee sting issue, Tyce retested his INR this past Thursday....4.0. He's been very steady with about a 3.0-3.6 range ever since we got the Coaguchek, so I do assume it's right. Guess the sting might be the culprit. We didn't make any change in his warfarin dosage, just gave him some v8 and a spinach salad and some broccoli and will test again next week. I do so love you, Al Lodwick!!! We no longer panic when it's low or high, just make an adjustment and continue on.

Of course we sprayed the h@#$ out of those yellow jackets!!! He got 10 more in the barn door and who knows how many in the ground between the paddocks........

Mosquitos

Mosquitos

This thread regarding bee stings had me thinking about what happened to me recently. My INR had been running right about 2.0 pretty consitantly. While on vacation I was bitten quite a bit by mosquitos. I didn't change anything at all with my eating except maybe eating a few more greens than normal. My next INR stick was 2.7. I thought that it was possibly due to the mosquito bites. Nothing was changed with my meds since I am to be kept between 2.0 and 3.0. I just had a draw on Friday, the docs machine was broken. I will know Monday if I have fallen back to the 2.0 range.

Take Care!
Gail
