This is a serious post as I got suckered by my twelve year old son today (who is really playing on MOm's guilt for abandoning him during Katie's surgery) into buying him a bearded dragon............hey, we compromised..........he really wanted a corn snake.

After dropping $200 for the package deal Wow! what a bargain!, we have found out that the nice young man at the pet store who appeared to be so knowledgeable was really full of feces. He knew just enough to be dangerous................for US! He sounded like he knew what he was talking about, but once we got home and started reading and researching, we found out that he must store his head up his posterior end and couldn't find it with both hands if he had to. :D

Please, if you know anything (lighting, temperature, etc. ) about Bearded Dragons, please let me know. I need your help desperately as we leave Saturday. Many hugs. J.

Ross's link looks good. I would also encourage you to impress upon your son that he needs to wash his hands every time after handling his new pet. Many reptiles, even those bred in captivity, carry salmonilla (sp?) that can transfer easily to humans. Tell him not to kiss his new friend and wash any dishes it comes in contact with, in the dish washer.

That being said, neighbors of our good friends have had many reptiles (various lizards, LARGE lizards included) for years and love them.

Encourage Trip to do his own reading and research. He chose a pet that requires more complex care than a cat or dog, but at his age he can certainly can step up to the plate.

Good luck!

Thank you two.........

I appreciate this. Checked inlong enough to print all this out and drop it on Trip. Had to drop another $50 at the pet store yesterday..............ugh! Many hugs. Janet
