A question for Bicuspid Aortic Valve experts--has anyone heard of a connection between BAVD and chronic acid reflux (GERD)? My son (12 yrs.) has both. We are struggling with the GERD, Nexium, etc. not working well enough. Specialists each see their own area. Could the two be connected? They are both valve problems. Any insight as always much appreciated.

The "reigning" theory right now is that my acid reflux (and/or gerd, though they havne't gone that far just yet) is at least in part caused by all the medications I take and their effect on my stomach.

I've been on Prilosec OTC for over a year now and it seems to do fairly well keeping things in check but it's by no means a perfect cure.

We've tossed around the idea of switching to Nexium though that's prescription only and I don't have drug coverage on my insurance.

Mostly I try to follow the dietary restrictions (my wife won't let me elevate the head of our bed which is supposed to help too) and lay off food an hour or so before going to bed.

My mom has acid reflux disease and she's on pepcid. I was on pepcid while in the hosptial after my OHS...
