By the time I got through law school I had evolved into a person who only sleeps six hours a night. Barb is "normal" and sleeps about 8 hours a night. With my new iPad, I have enjoyed lying beside her as she sleeps, quietly reading whatever book caught my interest from time to time.

In general, I am not a fan of foul language. Somehow I got started on the book "Sh*t my Dad told me". (No surprise, a lot of foul language). This is the first book I can remember where I cannot stop myself from laughing out loud. Even Barb, who is a "sleep expert" was awakened every few minutes by the laughter of her out of control husband.

And, as a result, I was "banned from the bedroom" until I finished the book. In fact, as I write this, Barb is now reading the "book" in the living room, and laughing loud enough for me to hear her in my little study. It is a very, very, funny book--especially for those of us who are parents. Fortunately it is not a long book, and is a quick read--I was only banned for a period of hours.

Dennis, I totally understand.
On my FB page I accepted to be a Fan of 'Sh-t my Dad says' and I was concerned that some of my friends
would be offended by it, but i just couldn't help myself. I, too, find myself laughing out loud as I read some of
the statements and observations. Also, my own Dad is a very outspoken and honest man; we have many a good laugh
during discussions with him about life, technology, and marriage, to name a few topics.
Glad you are enjoying your ipad and Barb is on board with your latest book. :)

Dennis,

I think I need to read this book. I certainly need a good laugh. I can also relate. I haven't laughed out loud while reading in bed ( I thought I would wake my husband, but he sleeps like a rock) since I read Angela's Ashes. Yes it was sad, but very humorous too.

So why was I laughing from just reading this thread??

This book is something I need to read. Maybe Santa will bring me one?

Thanks for sharing Dennis.

I've only had a few laughs post-op that were so violent that they hurt my sternum. Mixed emotions: I love a good laugh, but pain's not my fave!
Is the new Wm. Shatner TV show based on this book? My DW and I watch the show grudgingly, imagining it's beneath us, then LOL through most episodes. Reminds me of an old cartoon: "This TV show insults my intelligence, week after week, after week!"

After my first hernia surgery, I got back home to my apartment to find Woody Allen's Without Feathers half-finished on the bedside table. I picked it up, got to the first unexpected silly hilarious image, and thought I was literally going to die in bed from busting my gut. That surgeon did Good Work!

I am sure it is. I didn't know the show existed, but now I am seriously going to look for it. I think this is the funniest book I have ever read. Especially the part about the Aunt and the shot-gun.

Especially if you need a laugh, you should get this book. At first I thought it might just be my weird sense of humor, but Barb laughed just ad much as I did. If you liked James Thurber, you would probably like this book.

Well, I watched part of the show (not bad) and I also found the book (the store only had 3 left - and I bought 2). The book is going to be wrapped and be a Christmas present to myself, the other I'll give to my nephew.

Dennis,

I've been wondering what the book is like ... thanks for the note here. I'm going to have to find myself a copy of it and read it.

The show ... CBS' "BLEEP My Dad Says" ... is good at times. Some episodes I haven't been too crazy about, but overall it is good. Shatner, imho, is the PERFECT actor for the role, imho. In the US, it is on Thursday nights at 7:30p CENTRAL.

All righty....this week I stayed by the front door until the UPS dude showed up with my latest book and DVDs.
He slipped on the front walk and almost broke his neck, but I reminded him that I would hide his body and steal all
of his shipments. Over-worked UPS dudes don't share my sense of humour. Oh well, I digress.
"THE" book has arrived !!!
After flipping through it with a stupid grin on my face, "The" book will be a gift for my brother in law.
My husband will have to wait for the second copy that I will be ordering next week.
Dennis, many thanks for the tip. :)
