 Has anyone had one of these? I am told I got it from exertion. I am a regular walker but recently hit the ground running in a trip to NYC, up and down stairs, walking a lot, and got one. My doctor says exertion is the cause, and likely arthritis. I am 60 and a regular walker but aware I really did a lot in a short time and then got the problem. It causes my leg to swell and this is worrisome. I do have a cardio appt. scheduled in a week, but for now just wondered if anyone else has had one of these things. Thanks in advance.

Hi, I'm 59 and when I was still in my twenties I developed what was diagnosed as Baker's cysts behind my knees. I remember them as being quite painful and caused me difficulty getting in and out of a passenger van we had at that time.
Throughout the years I have had joint problems and problems with arthritis but the Baker's cysts eventually went away without any intervention. The swelling I would get was in the back of my legs behind my knees.

I have had a Baker Cyst for about 12 years. It is a 1 inch lump behind my right knee and now I do not even realise it is there. When it first developed it burst a few times but it quickly filled up again to its original size. Any pain I used to get from it was caused by myself playing with the lump. I was told it could be removed with surgery but as it was causing no problems it has been left alone. I did a lot of running which was probably the cause of it.

Thanks for responses!

Thanks for responses!

I have not posted in ages, and appreciate the responses, most coming from people I do not even know "virtually!" I was wondering a little bit if having the cyst was in any way a heart issue as well, but feel much reassured. I went to have my INR checked today, and the lady doing that said SHE has one too. I am realizing that this is a very common thing and not that big a deal. It does hurt a little but not to the point where I would want to do anything other than live with it. I had been taking it easy and staying off my leg but am going crazy without walking so...off to a nice walk late this afternoon with a light heart! This group is sooooo wonderful. Thanks again!
