Can someone please tell me, other than what we already know....would a fever be continuous in a person with bacterial endocarditis???

My God child, age 10 has been very sick. She was misdiagnosed with Mono. She does have MVP with regirg. Was not given the proper antibiotic regimen prior to recent dental work. They had her on a week of meds for a cleaning, which is not protocol.
Upon hearing about this, I relayed to her mother that this was not the way it is 'usally handled'.

5 weeks have passed since her dental cleaning.
Brittany is very sick with symptoms similar to Endocarditis. God, I pray that is not the case. They are having an echo this week.

Thanks

Hi Gina,

I'm sorry to hear about Brittany not feeling well. I had endocarditis when I was 13. I went into the hospital dehydrated and I had severe stomach cramping. I ran a very low fever when in the hospital, They sent me home with IV antibiotics for 6 weeks. I hope the echo goes well and Brittany feels better. Hugs and kisses to you and your family. Wishing you all the best!

Dear Gina-

What a distressing story, I hope it turns out to be something less drastic than endocarditis.

Please keep us informed.

Wishing Brittany all the best.

Hi Nicole

Welcome to the family! Wishing you all the best with your forthcoming MVR and AVR.

Thank you so very much for the information.

I am happy to see you were able to clear your infection and avoid surgery for a few years. Were you aware you had a valve deficiency before you contracted endocarditis?

We will be praying for your safe journey to the top of the mountain. Please keep us posted on your progress.

Take care

Endocarditis?

Endocarditis?

Gina, the diagnosis of endocarditis is usually confirmed by a blood culture after suspicion is raised by temperature rise, heart murmur, etc.

Gina,

I developed rheumatic fever which was misdiagnosed by my pediatrician when I was 12, I did not know about the damage done to my valves until I went into the hospital when I developed bacterial endocarditis a year later. For the past year, I've become very symptomatic and my surgeon says I'm in class 4 congestive heart failure and it's time to replace and repair the valves. So, Here I am 10 days away from the top of the mountain. Good luck again to you and the family, Please keep us posted.

Hi:

I had Bacterial Endocarditis in 1999. Due to a dental
visit. It destroyed my mitral valve. My symptoms
were fever, chills and in the later stage was muscle
weakness, delution and dyhydration. The best way to find
out if it is endocaditis is to do a blood culture. This will
tell if there is any bacteria in the blood system, which is
how it travels thru your body. Also my heart murmer was
much more noticeable. They did an echo which they put
down my throat (can't think of the name). It showed how much damage was done. I had surgery and was on iv antibiotics
for six weeks after.

All my best to your God Child.

Hi Gina - My Bacterial Endocarditis

Hi Gina - My Bacterial Endocarditis

When I had my valve destroying endocarditis, the fever was severe (105 and almost died) but only lasted 2 or 3 days.

Thank you to all whom responded.

Still trying to decide weather she has it or not? Vegitation did not appear on the echo. They did not do a blood culture, so??? Please tell me, how can they suggest she does not have endocarditis without the supporting test. IN this case a blood culture? She still runs fevers off and on and valve replacement was noted for her within the next decade.

My god child is a sweet little girl, born on the very same day as my daughter. Four years appart. She is all of 10 years old. I can't imagine going though this again on the other side of the bed.

Please pray for her safe journey.
Thank you.

Sounds like it's time for someone to stand up to the Doc's and insist on a Blood Culture or at least and explanation why one has NOT been performed. Be BRAVE !
