Hi everyone.

I'm back safely from the surgery and on the mend.

The top level experience is as follows:
1) very painless as I missed the rough days of complications.
2) Collapsed lung & bleeding issues post surgery required docs to go back in that evening.
3) ICU time was 3.5 days which tells you how rough that first day was.
4) Ward time was almost enjoyable with me adding laps daily.
5) Cardiac hospital food as always sux
6) released after 7.5 days with 29mm St Jude in mitral position plus LAD bypass via internal mamory
7) MV Repair option was aborted upon visual inspection

Pain was minimal. I was off anything good before I knew what I was taking. Second pacer wire and left lung drainage removals were quite painful with only codine/tylonol from previous day.

I was terribly excited to get home Wenesday night. I had huge energy that day.

Since then I've seen some fluid retension problems but I am doing very well.
Thanks to everyone for support and prayers

I'm migrating to the Post-Surgery forumn

Wow, you sure had a time of it... I hope all goes well for you. Take it really slow and take good care of yourself, your body has been thru a lot.. If you have any questions, please let us know!!!! I am 12 weeks post opAVR so it is all still very fresh in my mind.. Rose

Welcome home Dave! Glad you got that done and over-with? Now your only job for the next few weeks is to walk, sleep, eat and breath. Sounds simple to the person who never had their chest cracked open. You now know differently. :D oh boy!

I was wondering about you earlier this week. Glad to hear all went relatively well but sorry about the second surgery. Also, sorry you missed the good feelings from the pain meds.

Hope things continue to improve and you enjoy being home and past surgery.

Glad to hear you are home and hope that the recovery is swift and with no complications. Behave- you know the routine- and all will be well.

Dave,
Despite the bump in the road it sounds as though things are now progessing properly. Take it easy and keep breathing, walking, eating, & sleeping. Hope the remainder of your recovery is nice & quiet :)

Cris
