i'm currently on 5mg coumadin, also taking coreg, vasotec and lasik (trying to ween off it, everyother day, on day i'm taking lasik i take my klor-con (potassium) -

i also found previous posts regarding PAC's and PVC's - although i dont' know what type mine are..(will ask end this month when i see cardio... mine leveled out when i went up on the coreg and came back when we tried to ween off by lowering it.. so i'm back up.. but i heard some of you take magnesium supplement and was curious how that helped.. i know they gave me a couple of magnesium drips in the hospital, thought about buying it.. my everyday vitamin is just a essential one.. no vit K and all the other stuff

What is Royal Jelly?

Being on Coumadin, you need to check EVERYTHING you take with your Cardiologist since it seems just about everything has some level of interaction with the effectiveness of Coumadin and therefore INR..

Prior to my AVR surgery, I was on a low dose of Toprol XL (25 mg) to control PVC's. After surgery and a couple of A-fib events, I was told to increase my dose to 50 or even 75 mg as long as my Blood Pressure was above 105 / xx and my heart rate was above 60+. So far, it seems to be working. Only two A-fib events since coming home .

I had PACs all day, every third beat for about a year. I asked my cardioligist if any medication would help. He said beta blockers will help make it less noiticeable but will not stop the irregular beats. I had bad experience with beata blockers in the past so did not take it. I started taking supplements, including magnesium and hawthorne. and the PACs disappeared after a while. I am not sure which really helped, if any. There seems to be abundunt literature about magnesium and hawthorne. as beneficial for heart problems. Magnesium is supposed to help with the heart rhythm, and my guess is that it was the magnesium that helped. If you are on coumadin, the Hawthorne may affect your INR according to the literature. It did not seem to cause any significant problem with my INR.

I would be very cautious about Royal Jelly...honey the workers make for the Queen bee. Bee polen and honey are good for some things, but with the drugs you are on, watch out...bee polen and honey can cause severe reactions to regular folk. Ask your doctor.

Herb,

What kinds of problems did you have with Beta Blockers?

What specific one(s)? What dose?

Al,

Many years ago I was taking Blockadren. I do not remember the the doseage, but it was not large. Initially I had no problems and was able to exercise more strenuously, but after awhile I started to get swelling in my ankles and I was getting more out of breath. I stopped. A couple of years ago I started taking Atenelol. I think it was a small dose. I was also taking Altace , Coumadin nd Zocor at the time. Initially it was OK, but later I started seein swelling in my ankles so I stopped taking Atenelol. I am thinking of trying it again. I have also started taking Bilbery and Horse Chestnut which helps reduce the swelling and tenderness in my legs. These supplements have not affected my INR although the literature states that it may.

Hi Christine,
I take magnesium... my cardio suggested it for my irregular heartbeat. I take two, 250 mg. tablets daily and it has helped me.

Take care,
Zazzy

thanks - i got clearance from my doc to go ahead and take magnesium ( i started monday and by that afternoon, they pretty much stopped - i'm thinking it's the lanoxin they stopped last week, i went back up on my coreg dosage and it didn't seem to do anything.. hopefully, since taking mag. i can try again at lowering my coreg... my doc also cleared my way to take coq 10 and royal jelly if i want to.. but we're going to check my inr earlier to make see if we need to adjust for it all..

Hey Chris:

Welcome to "THE" site for it is indeed a great one for conquering any problems you may have with learning the in's and out's of having a valve replaced.

My cardiologist started me on magneseum-oxide (spelling) as soon as I had the valve replaced for he said it was essential for some reason. It has something to do with the blood I think. I take 7.5mg of Coumadin daily, no Vitamin K, and about nine other things. I too now have rhythm problems after the valve was replaced but they're all being controlled by the pacemaker except for the atrial fibrillations. They might replace this pacer with another if those don't go away soon.

Good luck and get well soon.

Royal Jelly?

Royal Jelly?

Chris:

I did forget to ask. What is this Royal Jelly? How are you using or consuming it, or is it just a breakfast favorite? Why would you think it's bad for your heart?
