Are these signs of Avr? Chest burning? Stabbing sensation? Back ache? Sometimes between shoulder blades? I get these sometimes just wondering?
Lee

Sounds more like indigestion to me, but I didn't have any pain symptoms. All of mine were breathlessness and exhaustion and you know what, I still have those same symptoms!

Hi Lee
Are these *new* symptoms? If so, I'd suggest you contact your doctor ASAP to rule out angina or some other warning signs of something more imminent.

No not new I have these for ten years or more. Just wondering if it was a sign way back then.

You know Lee the more I think about it, the more I think you should get checked out. Dissections can mimick what your feeling when they just start to dissect. Something to think about, but don't think too long.

Well I only have a few weeks before surgery and Ive had those pains along time not today but from time to time just wondering.

Hi Lee,
I also have the chest burning senstation and backache. (upper outer back area)...

Interesting, because I also have the reguritation issue versus stenosis...

I was considering taking a poll of AVR's if their primary condition was regurgitation or stenosis. It looks to me that more people here are dealing with AS the AR.

I am curious about your numbers and symptoms this close to surgery..

I dont have any numbers I have had 2 surgeons and 2 cardios tell me I need surgery so I just said ok. My symptoms are what I said at the top. But I do find I get mildly short of breath.

you are a very trusting person to go into surgery without having all the technical info.

I am curious to see "the numbers" after my last echo and stress echo compared to echo six months ago. The cardio is scheduled to read the stress echo Tuesday so I should know something wednesday.

I do have to admit since my cardio has said time to move forward for surgery I haven't felt has driven to know the numbers.

I think in the past I was counting on the numbers to clue me in to when I needed surgery and was content to ignore my symptoms chalking them up to anxiety, stress, age etc.

Looking back that was not such a good idea!

I did read an article that women tend to become more symptomatic than men... that would make an interesting poll.

woman who became symptomatic before being told time for surgery versus men :)

So have you made your decisions regarding valve etc.?

Do you have any AS as well?

Just curious...

:)

Another question for you Lee...

are you on any calcium channel blockers. They have really helped with the symptoms above. I don't think I realized how much chest pain/spasms and heart pounding sensations I had while sleeping or rather not able to sleep until they have reduced with nefedipine...

It looks like you are at a great hospital. I had a great fortune cookie, a little pep talk from the Lord I believe....

"Face boldy the beginning of a new life" It is the little things that can encourage us sometimes...

You sound like me.
I wanted to know the numbers at first so I could say thats not bad. But then when they said I need surgery I just said to heck with the numbers I just didnt care about them.
I will go with a mechanical valve regardless of what they try and talk me into I just want to do this one time not 2 or 3. I donto have any thing else wrong other that the regurgatations and a enlarged left vent.

I am leaning toward the same thing, that is a mechanical valve...

I am having such a hard time staying focused at work etc. My husband and I are going to take a short vacation out to california next weekend for our anniversary. We haven't taken a trip without the kids in about 10 yrs...

Bill posted a list of ten things to do while waiting surgery. So I am taking him up on his suggestions by spending quality time with spouse as well as visit family in CA.

I am looking forward to the distraction. Hopefully I will have the results from the echo to confirm or not confirm cardio suggestions for surgery... Knowing how I am feeling I cannot imagine him saying otherwise since he said he was wanting to gather data to present to surgeon with this procedure...

:)

Have you stocked up on good books, etc.

I have a few religous books and the bible. But I hope Im not there long enough to read the entire bible.
I went to my sons baseball practice today and about 1.5 hours into it I had to sit down got very tired and a little weak and just a little light headed but not bad.

Do you feel like a yo yo! I do...

I felt so bad after my stress echo and even the next day that I wouldn't have been surpriesed if the doctor called on wednesday and said you need the surgery the following week.

Then today, I took it very easy and I felt pretty good (as long as I am not physically active) and I'm already forgetting how bad I felt yesterday and thinking maybe I won't have to have the surgery for another year...

How old is your son and how do you feel about him coming to the hospital to see you in recovery?

Maybe we could start a thread on how others handled visitors during hospital stay.

I have 2 sons 9 and 14 they can come in after the vent is gone I think that would be scary.

That sounds like a good guideline. My younger two are 11 &13 the older two are in college.

We will be praying for a peaceful and uneventful surgery for you and your family...
