Although the technicians looked less than absolutely certain if you ask me (had to consult with each other and observed the monitor for longer than I'd think was necessary), it's been confirmed that my aortic valve is just a plain old tricuspid like most people have. So my AS is clearly the result of calcification at a very young age (42).

I also have a sky-high coronary artery calcium score for a guy my age, 156, which is indicative of CAD. At 42.

Anyone else here get the one-two punch of AS and CAD? I feel like my heart is being tag-teamed.

I'm not sure if I fall into that category or not. When I had my pre-surgery angiogram they found one artery that was 50% blocked. We chose not to stent it, instead opting for a single bypass done at the same time as my valve replacement. I had a "probable" bicuspid aortic valve, but I don't know if my blockage was calcification or plaque.

For the entire 10+ years I was in The Waiting Room, I read all the articles that said that arterial blockage was rare among aortic stenosis patients. I'm not sure how I ended up with this bypass, then. . .

Yeah, if you had 50% blockage and needed CABG, you have CAC. Probably more than me, but you're also probably older than me I'd wager. Nothing unusual about my CAC score -- for a 65 year old man.

Was your valve bicuspid?
