I have been reading some history and came accross something about blood-letting. Back about 1800 it was thought that many diseases were caused by having too much blood. Therefore, the treatment was to nick a vein and draw out blood. They also believed that people had much more blood than they actually do. So one woman was reported to have had 80 ounces of blood drained out of her. That is 5 pints!!! Her comment was that she felt lethargic after it was over.
So the next time a dentist or some doing a colonoscopy says that you might bleed to death if you don't stop warfarin, ask them how poor their technique is that you might lose more than 5 pints of blood.
What about the nonsense about bleeding to death from cutting yourself shaving. Imagine a half gallon of blood pouring our of a tiny razor nick!!
